I've recently gotten into the aquascaping hobby and glad I found father fish so early on in my initiation. I started with an iwagumi tank. But was unknowingly gifted 3 zebra Danios, while I was waiting on my shrimp to arrive. So upon their arrival. The danios immediately started hunting the shrimp. In an emergency hail Mary. I grabbed a 50l tub, a few scoops of gravel and 20% of the water from my iwagumi tank, filled the tub with pothos, lava stone algae leaves, a few rocks, presoaked driftwood filter and heater, acclimatized the fish that night and had them in the tank a few hours later once the temperatures matched. (That was 3 days ago) I tested my NO² NO³ ammonia and PH and everything was perfect. The Danios have been happily enjoying their temporary home for 3 days now and are as healthy as ever. I've just added 2 Ramshorn snails. While I prepare their new tank. All the while my aquarium buddies are telling me I've got to cycle it for 2 weeks. I just didn't have the time for that. So far so good.

Hi father fish... I followed your advice and set up a natural aquarium using drit.. I add nerite snails and apple snails in my planted tank (already have 9 pairs of neon tetra) for alage cleaning.. but snails poop too much.. I see a lot of poop in my tank.. does that make ammonia spike in the tank or not? Need to remove snails or not? Please give me advice

If deep substrate does indeed work, does disturbing the substrate of an established system cause problems for the denitrification process in a small tank, such as when you need to pull plants, rescape, remove accumulated layers of substrate that has gotten too high etc? Would one need to start over at all? For the sand cap, does fine sand work or is course sand required? How about 3-4mm gravel?

2.5 years in the hobby witha 3 gallon shrimp tank a 5 gallon betta tank and a 10g endler guppy shrimp snail tank. I've concluded that you don't chose snails and duck weed, snails and duck weed choose you.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom! I have one planted soil tank I started a few years ago from following someone with a similar approach, and finding your videos these past few days has been an incredible treat. I have a second 10 gallon tank I will be working on over the next few days, and I'm excited to go collect leaves and some soil and even a few plants from the river, as i begin working on my new tank here. Your videos have been well thought out and I watch them when I get a spare few minutes to do so.

I started up a 130g cichlid tank. Threw a few fish in a few days after I planted the tank. Immediately got told how I don't know what I'm doing by people in the community telling me my fish would all die because I didn't let my tank "cycle". All my fish are alive and well.

Thank you very much for the inspiration! I have an old 60x30x30cm aquarium that I had initially thought about converting into a terrarium for cacti and socculents. After watching your videos, I'm definitely going to make a natural aquarium! I currently have 5 aquariums set up in the usual way. Now I really want to try your technique... I'm already working on it. I hope everything goes well and I will share the photos of this new adventure!!!

I followed your method and started my drit tank 15 days ago.. i am also a member of discord... May I cover the bottom using carpet plants like Monte Carlo, dwarf hair Grass etc., ?? If it spreads, is there any affects in tank filtration or tank setup?

I have a couple of questions. Soil: Does it matter what kind of 'soil' I take? Can I use soil literally out of my garden or any bagged soil intended for the vegetable garden for example? Sand: can I use sand bought for the kids' sandbox? Gravel: can I still put a layer of gravel on top of the soil and sand for aesthetic reasons (I like the look of black), or will it interfere with things? Thank you!

Thank you, father fish your advice is genuine, it was the covid lock down, 😷by my negligence forgot to sift the potting soil and the wood chips went anaerobic suffered most of the winter months as my tank farted its way to the natural balance you are talking about. you are so right, the tank a 40 gal. found its own balance. it's been almost two years and haven't lost any fish, just top it off and the fish and val. are thriving. they are surviving noticed a week without feeding the fish can see the microbes (infusoria) that was added when first set up the tank. My second attempt went smoother sifted potting soil.🤣

Yeah I always add fish inside the first week without to much hassle, I certainly under feed early aswell. Overfeeding early will crash your tanks quick without maintenance
