Or you could just take a wet paper towel and wipe away thst wood glue thats made to be wiped off with water and rag

The reason for this is not to clean it off. It's to let the sawdust stick to the glue to close up any small cracks/ openings between pieces. Gives it a natural color filler.

It's chamfered on all sides. This creates a shadow to hide minor wall imperfections.

You did a great job. I would have checked the face of all three for plumb and parallel, take the biggest gap or if you're shooting for a certain shelf space like lets say 18" and have like lets say a 2" scribe. So you make it 20" and scribe them all in. I've been in situations where 1/2" scribe was not enough. Although, I say this as a carpenter. I'm not a woodworker. I just cut and install.
