When Kill Bill came out. QT said he never seen it. In his book Cinema Speculation, he said he didn't like it. I think he took sone things from this but Lady Sniwblood is the film whose prints are all over Kill Bill.

This movie is streaming free on Shudder. Absolutely loved it. Not a horrir in the least, but a fantastic movie. Got to give it up to whoever procures content at Shudder, always interesting.

Dear people at Radiance, how about those ones: Kabe atsuki heya (The thick-walled room) and Karami-ai (The inheritance) from Masaki Kobayashi). Some Kihachi Okamoto movies: Kiru (Kill), Nikudan (The human bullet), Sugata Sanshiro, Chikagoro naze ka Charusuton (At this late date, the Charleston), East meets West, Sukedachi-ya Sukeroku (Vengeance for sale). Anyway, you're doing an amazing job.

Is the Snow Woman that same story as in Kwaidan?

I think it is a newer adaptation of the same story. Kwaidan is 1964 and this is 1968 and by a different director, so it seems like they just decided to do another version of the tale from the 1903 story collection. It would be interesting to see if there's much of a difference since the tales in Kwaidan are about an hour long anyway, right?

@@garym6315 Yeah, it's a different adaptation of the same story. It's the same with The Ghost of Yotsuya, which has been adapted multiple times. The one by Nakagawa Nobuo is probably the most famous of them, which is not the one in this boxset.

The marketing is very misleading. Trying to present this as a Wang Kar Wai film in order to sell more DVDs. It's a film about a prostitute. Style is similar to Oshima or Suzuki.

Just fascinating! I love how much he clearly appreciates the impact these films had on children. Often a lot of actors can resent "being relegated" to children's roles but it's such a wonderful thing to be a part of a child's imagination. I appreciate that his framing seems to put a respect in that.
