I think your initial test was flawed to begin with because instead of increasing the gain on the compressor to get a similar input volume as the hardware, I think you should have done it on the trim on the console . Likely since it's analog and going out to the hardware, if possible, the signal through the insure is at a different level than staying directly in the consul using a plug-in. You should've equalize the gain using the gain control in the console, going into the plug-in rather than just increasing the gain on the plug-in. As an experienced pro engineer, you should understand that gain staging is one of the most important things to do and you neglected to compensate for that so to me this test is completely useless.

People who use plugins are broke and instead of saying that they are broke out loud or at least thinking that they are broke, they say tha plugin is tha same as tha original hardware :(

Cool video! Question, do the vocals have hard tuning on them? I hear twirling/phasing sound - was that by design or by accidently going to hard on the tuning? Thanks

Does automation on Duality only record faders and mutes like on a good old 4000 ? or do the sends and eq's are also automated ?

even using the legacy versions, virtually all digital eq/comp plugs are a con, they are not analog

Hi Sir, I am Derrick from South Africa, I would first like to say you have inspired me so much, Question is, in the master but do you put and bus compressor and which one is best just to lift the overall sound of the whole mix?

Correct me if I'm wrong: you have to load the plugin INSIDE the 360 plugin? What if I need to automate the plugin? The DAW will read the automation from 360 or from plugin? Can I automate plugins through this way?

Thank you for this video. Wonderful! What is often not noticed is that our subconscious actually perceives the quantized sampling rate, but our mind does not! The mind is comparatively very slow. Because "digital" is only a quantized approximation. And can never lead to the natural full-fat level of whole milk. In addition, with digital there are delays in milliseconds, which the subconscious also perceives. The subconscious perceives delays of 1 millisecond! No problem at all with analogue! In our souls we perceive music processed in analogue with an indescribable feeling of well-being. It is worth working analogue as far as possible. Thank you very much!

As you said, if you know what you are doing you can get all the depth and 3dness in the world in the box. Sometimes gear is like a cheat to get great sound without understanding why. Serban Ghenea is ITB and his bass is soooo thick and his mids are soooo smooth. He uses CLA-76 and a 10 year old channel strip... knowledge and skill gets good results, great gear is fun and can be a shortcut to complex processing without having to know whats going on

With tracks this well-recorded, I don't see the the challenge....(apart from the spot-mic on the snare - it sounds like crap - like any other amateur recording)

... terrible choice of music to showcase anything... the music is quite annoying as much as distracting to get a clear view. Also no kicks, no snare or hi hats or what not that can help discern the works... uff... though couldnt get through the vid without hating it.

Nice. Just subscribed. Dont mind the weirdos who leave negative comments. They dont understand that this is becoming a lost art form; with all of the 'in the box' mixing done now days. The trolls who leave those comments probably couldn't even find the restroom in a large format studio. Let alone their way around a console or patching in outboard gear.

@@certifiedbeatz Not so much problems, just a few things could be better, the Waves plugins have latency for me, the fact that you cnat filter tracks and plug in channels in 360 console means you can end up with an awful lot of channels on screen,
@certifiedbeatz
@certifiedbeatz 3 ай бұрын
@Newmusicreview, thank you for your response. Well, I do use a lot of wave plugins that already have latency without using the 360 wrapper plugin so that alone I will pass on buying.. I wish you could you one pluging and have multiple plugins in that rack to use on each channel strip with different presets and settings.

@@certifiedbeatz The SSL has a primary use I think , and its very good at that , I suspect most people will give up with the 3rd party plugin mode after a while unless they really up the game in terms of UI

You guys need to stop crying in the comments. I don’t know of any plugin compressors that can do 20db of gain reduction comfortably, and I own damn near every compressor plugin known to man. Plugins are good but they just have different capabilities and that’s okay.

Very interesting. Even though i am not a fanatic of either side cause i find plugins excel in some things and analog in others, we have arrived at a place where analog or digital will not make or break a record. The way i see it, a good engineer working completely in the box will produce a better result than a „medium" skill engineer with the best analog equipment

The SSL 360 app seems redundant here BUT if you combine it with a touch screen monitor it's as close as you'll get to mixing on a physical console.

To be really fair, you should use oversampling on the plugin, i.e., at least 4x or 8x. I saw the same type of comparison with SPL's IRON and the plugin was close but not exact. However, when you oversample it, the low end tightens and there's more clarity and detail. I know this plugin doesn't have built in OS so you'd have to use Reaper's OS, or Patchwork or Superplugin. One more thing. When you change between the plugin and hardware, don't stop and say you're changing it - just change it in real time so we can hear the differences immediately.
