I doubt if anyone’s monitoring this video’s comments, but I’d anyone is: I ended up here because the fifth time I administered my own shot (it was actually semaglutide but it’s administered with an insulin needle) I did it as I normally do, but I don’t know if I hit a bad spot or what because there was actually pain just after breaking the skin. Regrettably I went ahead with it instead of maybe closing a different spot. It’s now two days later and I still feel a weird sensation in that spot of my belly. It’s not an itching or burning sensation, I’m not really sure how to describe it other than feeling similar to a tensed up muscle. Which would be odd considering I’ve got a huge layer of fat above my abs (thus the reason for taking semaglutide). I did it about 3 inches from my belly button this time, in roughly the same spot as my other injections though I tend to change it up a little each time. The only thing I actually did differently than other times is that, because I was distracted by the pain, I forgot to let go of the skin before injecting. My home instructions say to bunch up the skin/fat, put the needle in, then release the skin/fat before actually pushing down on the plunger. I’ve always done that in the past but this time I forgot. Idk if that would have any impact though, considering this video doesn’t even mention the step of letting go of the skin first. I think it’s more likely that I hit a nerve, yet I can’t seem to find any information or literature online explaining how one might avoid hitting nerves in the stomach (or confirming if that’s even a real possibility given the big layer of fat I’ve got over my belly).

Despicable. If these PA's are as ignorant as most MDs, healthcare in the US is just a criminally incompetent crime syndicate.

What about involving the actual specialists in nutrition - the registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN)? That is exactly what RDNs are experts in! The whole entire career of an RDN has been "carrying the torch" of nutrition throughout the field of medicine for decades. I strongly suggest collaborating with the nutrition experts rather than delving into medical nutrition therapy which is outside the PA scope of practice. We can all agree nutrition is ESSENTIAL to recovery in clinical care; but as an RDN myself, I have to admit I am quite frustrated hearing this message.

I find the pen the most seamless way to get my shots. I don't have much fat to inject myself on, so I rely on my abdomen area to receive most of the sticking as I can easily grab and pull my own skin so I don't accidentally hit nerves or muscle. The pen shots are as painless as it gets, they give me the same feeling as lancing my finger.

Do you use pens or common syringes? You know, when I first started injecting myself I didn't really like sticking my abdomen as mine is especially sensitive for some reason. I find the outer side of my thighs WAY more tolerable to inject myself on. Idk if it's some animalistic instinct or what, but sticking my own abdomen makes me anxious no matter for how long I've been doing it and that anxiety just makes things worse.

Worked directly with patients as CMA for about 10 years in all specialties. Exceptional recommendation letters from doctors I worked with. As a non-traditional student got a medicine master's degree to be more a competitive applicant. Applied to PA school 3 times and still wasn't able to get in because my prerequisites are not as "competitive" as a traditional student with no real clinical experience. Worked so hard for 8 years and pay thousands of dollars on applications to become a PA. This is exactly why the field is lacking diversity, not all applicants are going to look the same or will have the same opportunities to complete all the requirements. Real life clinical experience is overlooked and apparently a forensic medicine master's degree as well. Very disappointed on the selection process.
