Yep thank you for pointing this out. I have no idea why the English version added fear to it. Like you said Marika's reasons for hiding Messmer are indeed ambiguous.

Technically the translation is correct. Messmer's flame does burn both body and soul. But there is a nuance to it: Messmer's flame "purifies/cleanses" the soul so to speak but doesn't have a destructive property of frenzied flame. So yes, the souls are indeed remain, they don't perish.

Ok I have a hypothesis about the shaman/numen connection: Numen are NOT from the lands between, besides Marika I think we see NO numen in game due to their looks in character creation. And Marika's been transformed and was not exactly directly numen. So Numen literally come from somewhere we've never visited in-game, I believe their arrival post-dates the Crucible but not by much. They came from elsewhere bringing their big stone coffin boats filled with material to grow trees (i.e. corpses). They land in the Lands Between and settle in, the ones that settle in Marika's hometown that offshoot is known as Shaman. I also believe the Numen to be the ancestors of the hornsent, and that making things from corpses is a Numen cultural thing passed down to ALL descendants of the Numen that came ashore in the Lands Between. This includes the Nox. Also, I may be wrong but I think Numen in history are exclusively female (despite the character creator) because Numen are Born From Trees. The 'grandmother' is the tree Marika was born from. Shaman are Numen descendants, likely very directly as cityfolk/countryfolk kind of split, their flesh melds well and easily with others, it is a feature of their lineage and we see it in Grafting. LP I think you are right that the lack of horns is what allows Shaman to readily accept the flesh of others, making them both 1) Valuable to the hornsent and 2)From an outcast group that the very fact of their horn purity guarantees both the disposable status of, and usefulness of. I think the hornsent also reproduce via trees. The reason ALL of the post Erd Tree text about the 'impurity' of horns come from Marika's disgust towards the Hornsent, not an inherent 'kagare' of possessing horns. And if you are correct and having horns makes them unsuitable for whatever the bonding nature of Numem proto grafting is. Also, their very presence in the cycle of life and death implies other people will get it and their souls will be forever cut off from the Erd Tree (which I suspect is just a massive implementation of grafting using the spirit knowledge of the ancient Rauh culture) and likely immune to certain manipulations associated with Numen proto grafting. As a side note, the entire mimic tear experiment like of the Nox is using the same 'born from a tree' kind of nature but applied to inanimate matter, and I think the bodies around their thrones are the same as the Spirit Gate, and the bodies bound into columns in Rykard's arena (HE WAS MAKING A CRUCIBLE!) So Numen were the ancestors of nearly all hominid life except the beastmen, and were very mutable and adaptable and born from trees. They landed and split off into the cosmopolitan hornsent and the rural shaman. Hornsent used their rural cousins in unspeakable rituals to forward a Normalized Cruicible Vortex on a small scale, the being equivalent to their architecture. At the time the hornsent worshiped the crucible itself and were working on manifesting a full blown god to represent it, using the ritual in the scroll Miquella used. Marika reversed the ritual and instead of being the sacrifice, took power from the to-be-god and ascended herself. Likely the story trailer is right after a ritual were all the bodies you see were Shaman and Hornsent sacrificed to ascend the snake and the outcome was 'The Strumpet's Betrayal'. Then Marika goes on to conquer the rest of the Lands Between, the Shamen she rescued becoming who would be the Nox and the remaining Nobles and commoners. The Nox being the Shamen that rebelled against the two fingers and created the fingerslayer blade, cut off from Erd Tree births would have to resort to the mimic tears. Also I think Numen are functionally age-immortal, as in they naturally regardless of Grace do not die of old age. I think the Nox we fight in the underground cities are literally the last of their race to persist since the cities fell.

No scadutree fragments is the same as a rl1 play through. People can criticize you and say it’s your fault for limiting yourself, but these types of play throughs put boss design under max criticism because all you are left with is player skill and boss move design. It perfectly shows how the bosses are tuned to have maximum damage and minimal attack windows. Which is technically beatable, but not in the slightest bit fun.

I found the exact post I remembered seeing about someone trying to translate Light of Miquella. It was a screen capture of a Twitter post by someone named Soycrates (yes, like the soy insult). Someone who also saw the image transcribed a different translation they found (giving no source though) that said "An absolute god and their king can never coexist."

Something I noticed about the DLC that has me confused is the yellow Gold that is everywhere in this land of the Crucible. Wasn't Crucible Gold more reddish like the Crucible Knight armor. Was that meant to be a niche thing? The fact that Crucible armor still exists means it didn't all turn yellow. Did Fromsoft forget about this?

I remember Kuro from Sekiro being called a 'miko' as well and was confused because most of my exposure to Japanese media depict them as females until I looked for the characters used. Feeling surprised and not surprised at the same time learning that they also used that to the shamans in ER.

At 10:35 I think you are taking some huge leaps connecting blood flies to Man Flies and saying that the blood ritual removed impurities from the blood friends arm. More likely it made the Arm a holy instrument to the followings of the Mother who excepts those with blood based curses like Mohg. So your entire train of thought doesn't really hold up.
@Xgenstudioz777
@Xgenstudioz777 2 күн бұрын
You say something about leaping, but you also substitute "to purify" (to cleanse, to purge) for "make holy". Purification is making something pure of something. Otherwise it is nothing special at least because it is “an arm pulled from the corpse of one of their kin, and wielded as a *makeshift weapon* ”. This weapon doesn't even have scaling from holiness. It's just a physical weapon. What does this have to do with a holy instrument? And, as mentioned, we see from Mohg's example that he is literally the only horned omen that doesn't have cursed omen attacks.

Trivia: Fairytales about princes who've been placed under a curse that transforms them into something scary or gross but that transform back into princes at night or if kissed by a princess are actually a genre. Examples include "Princess and The Frog", "Beauty and The Beast", and "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" among others... Aaand yeah, if you think they've got creepy undertones, then you're on to something. See, the moral of those stories specifically addressed young girls: "The guy you're arranged to marry could be a repulsive frog, or a bestial savage, or a scary animal, but when he sneaks into your bedchamber at night he'll be positively princely."

I’ve been watching a series called “An Agony of Effort” by Charred Thermos, and he actually found that Laurence’s position actually more looks like the statue ‘Cast From Nature,’ which is a cast of a dissected cadaver from the Victorian era. Give it a look, it is a criminally underrated series and he draws a lot of amazing conclusions

Miquella's Hornsent also uses a similar curse spell as Dung Eater does when he fights. I'm not clear about the relationship between the Hornsent and the Shamans (the Tower People). Were they really the same culture, even? Or did the Hornsent conquer the Shamans the same way that Marika and Messmer conquered the Hornsent?

2:10:38 so is Bayle's lineage the origin/progenitor of the hornsent? These horns in his heart probably are the earliest in the timeline if we don't count "regular" horns on the heads of dragons. And while there don't seem to be many direct cultural connections Enir Ilim seems like a symbolic imitation of the storm beyond time, both essentially being divine spirals which reach the heavens. 2:27:55 ironic how the common interpretation of a "tyrant" usually goes in the other direction: cripplingly obsessed with being overthrown (probably because that's how _they_ claimed the throne to begin with) and enacting ever more draconic punishments against any perceived threat whether real or imagined. 2:32:20 on one hand the spirit summon description makes it sound like she "developed human attachments" and sounds quite positive. On the other she was previously devoted to manipulating a cult into slaying a traitor, and human hearts are also known for holding grudges. Makes it seem like karmic retribution: if you will be a good lord she will happily follow, but if you anger her she'll end you much like Gloam-Eyed Melina.
@Photoloss
@Photoloss 8 күн бұрын
To me the most annoying part about the Crucible is the ancient Erdtree sigil not having any prominent spiral imagery. Otherwise it'd make a lot of sense for the original Erdtree to have been a double helix (similar to the Haligtree) which was split into the straight golden tree and the brittle husk of the Scadutree with the removal of Destined Death. 2:54:00 uh, why WOULD the Shadowlands NOT be "wrong" and why would the Suppressing Pillar NOT be malfunctioning, when Marika sealed the lands away and then shattered the Elden Ring? Since the Pillar mentions the Lands Between it probably requires the lands to be whole in order to truly function properly, although whether it can still enact its proper function upon the Shadowlands is another matter. Of course with it being _very_ old the entire thing could be a bit of a red herring, supposed to establish the Lands Between as a whole as "the afterlife" to the other regions mentioned e.g. the Land of Reeds and Eochaid (and maybe Ranah etc.) rather than describing the flow of death _within_ the Lands Between. Or for a combination of the two ideas, the Pillar was originally built to establish a kind of closed loop ecosystem which also (eventually?) involved the Crucible, but Marika upended that with the removal of Destined Death and nowadays the Pillar only exists to confirm that the Shadowlands were in fact once the geometric centre of the Lands Between.

I guess the Hornsent could only be inhabited by spirits, when the Numen/Shaman would be inhabited by gods. That would explain why they killed all the shamans. If the Hornsent were the chosen ones as they like to believe, they would also be inhabited by gods and not just spirits or tempests. It would not be the first time that Hornsent would get rid of their opponent who makes them look bad : they hid away the Lamenter in a gaol for the same reason. Them too had marvelous horns, and not just on their head but their whole bodies. How could the Hornsent trully be the chosen ones when others (Lamenters' race and Shamans') do everything better than them? Also, the fact that shamans were closer to the spirit world may be the reason why Marikas' offspring would be "cursed" to be a vessel for Gods (God of Rot for Malenia, St Trina for Miquella, the Base Serpent for Messmer, and the Gloam Eyed Queen for Milena) Note that only Marikas' "true heir" (the one she had with Radagon, so basicaly herself) can be inhabited by gods. When they F together, they infant shamans (could also Radagon be a Shaman, or something kin to one?), but if one of the 2 parents aren't shamans, they lose the ability to be vessel for Gods and aren't shaman anymore. Maybe the reason why Numen/Shamans are seldom born?

Just to add to the streamer debuff comments: The brain isn't built to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously. You can't read a book and listen to a podcast and get all the information, for example. The nature of streaming is such that you have to perform such tasks: playing the game, saying something relevant about the game, thinking of lore to talk about, reading chat and responding. When switching between these tasks, normally it would take the brain a few seconds to switch. When streaming, you're constantly switching, making it more taxing on the brain. EDIT: You described this later in the stream anyway!

Oh crap I just had an epiphany!! I think that the Hornsent where trying to do what The Nox and the sorcerers where doing. To make an artificial saint, god, ascended life form! The Jar innards when out side of the Jar look like the Graven Mass of the glintstone sorcerers. One that would allow a channel to the Crucible Current like the graven mass has a connection to the Primeval Current. And the nox tried to do similar things with their Mimic Tears and making a God. Where the hornsent wanted a divine saint, and the nox wanted a god of night, and the sorcerers wanted a God of Stars most likely. I also think the Numen is similar in function as an Empyrean. It’s not so much a race or species as it is a designation. A characteristic or blessing of birth like being omen isn’t really just a race as it is a designation based on a curse. Marika was both a Shaman and a Numen, and a Chosen Empyrean.
