Got it. But why? Is the concept that its likely the guard that is switching onto the other perimeter player and he can close out (in theory) faster than the weak side helper in most defences? Then further to that, living with the mismatch that creates in the low post? Not sure I see the point of this?
@lk2055
@lk2055 10 күн бұрын
I think that the general point of these switching tactics is that you don't want anyone chasing the ball. In the case of this drive, the ball handler is effectively double teamed. So neither of these two defenders should be defending the next pass. That would be chasing the ball. The help defender, who is now on the inside is in a better position to position to defend the ball handler. It's easier for him to become the primary on ball defender instead of going back to his man. You have remember that this scenario is happening if the initial on ball defender is beaten. If you have rules about how you handle it, then it's less likely someone will be open for too long. You will live with a mismatch, but at least everyone will be covered.

I would add that in sprint relays, the passer and receiver should always use opposite hands for the baton, enabling them to run in opposites sides of the lane (as the coach says in this video). I've seen teammates trip over each other's feet when both runners use the right hand, or both use the left hand.

Iverson is a play/series where 2 stagger screens are set for an off ball player to run across the court. It stresses the defense by either slowing the man defending the offensive player running off the stagger screens enough to give space for a shot/drive or forces them to commit to switching on the stagger screens opening the door for mismatches/miscommunications. Larry Brown ran this for Iverson when he was with him in Philadelphia. I run a version of this series with my youth team. Easy to teach/execute and it highlights how we can force adjustments and then take advantage of those same adjustments.

In today’s game the guard bringing it up would’ve continued his drive trying to dunk,instead of coming back out, shooting the ball out his ass. I’m not sure if this is pre-dunk 1977.

the other players that went before during the drill and are walking into the next group should learn to run to the sideline and learn to stay out of the way. that's how they play in games you notice that when a play is developing a idk what I'm doing or where I'm supposed to be clog's up that lane or play by bringing their defender to the ball so there's a clusterfuck in that area.

Bruh... It's a 5 on 5 shell drill nothing special.. they make 1 defender touch the half court line if the defense doesn't allow a score in the paint to create a 4 on 5 situation. The 1 defender gets back on defense to make it 5 on 5 again... Just ignore the players on the sideline and create your own rules. You don't have to run exactly as he runs it.

The 2nd principle is angles and what I mean by that is angles! LOL Rich Rod is an offensive genius - seriously. Lifelong Michigan fan and we just won a Ship with antithesis of RR's offense. Sorry it didn't work out for him at M but I loved watching his offense.

Your right, im just saying, they losing close games because of coaching , he should have more conference championship if he was so special. I think he's a great coach, but this ain't winning games on the road. They need to focus more videos on press defense, rebounding and more players knocking down the 3 , especially the 2nd unit.

Steve - I've got a boy with a left leg lead. He appears to keep his shoulders and hips square but, swings his lead leg from left to right. This of course leads to a balance issue. Not surprisingly, it gets worse with each successive hurdle. Do you have a drill series that might help to keep his lead leg going straight forward rather than swinging to the right. Thanks
