G’day mate, ithese Tamiya motors have the shortest shaft. You have created an ingenious alternative that worked great, good stuff! 👍 🇦🇺

Why do you need to run it in, have you renovated the engine?
@jsa2001
@jsa2001 2 ай бұрын
Because its brand new and if you fail to run any ic engine in you get premature wear of engine components and it wont last as long. The engine has good steady revs now.

Got a lot of crankshaft wobble. Is the front crankcase bearing any good or is this just customary with diesel engines

It's an optical illusion, no wobble there and the moulding of the prop makes it look even worse.

Почему так много масла из картера по носку?
@jsa2001

More percentage of castor oil in the mix and diesel engines are naturally messy. The exhaust was just collecting in the bottom of the engine mount.

@@user-ip8wv3hq6j There is less oil than what it seems coming from that gap , the whole engine is full of oil from the exhaust. Some paw engines have double bearings these are excellent diesel motors. Ive just been testing another engine today from red fin www.redfinengines.com another British manufacturer. A 049 engine its going back to them as the con rod is bent. might put that video up.

A wonderful celebration of a great pioneer of powered flight. Well done Percy and the people who in 2003 proved that his heavier than air machine may have well flown successfully …with a few refinements. My only criticism: the film never mentions that other great early pioneer of powered flight, John Stringfellow (1799-1883), who flew a steam powered model aircraft down the length of a disused mill in Chard, Somerset in 1848 and which may have succeeded in travelling 60 yards or more. As you enter the town of Chard, a sign says something to the effect ‘Welcome to Chard, the home of powered flight.’ So dear Wright brothers, you can’t claim all the glory for the invention of powered flight! 😊
@hughloxdale4617
@hughloxdale4617 2 ай бұрын
According to the book ‘An Ancient Air’ by Harald Penrose, Smithsonian Institution Press, Washington DC, (1989), suggests that the flight of 1848 was only 40 yards, but different sources give different values.

Pretty sure you can get a pinion from Tamiya that specially deals with this problem? # 3515006 18T Pinion Gear (MD11) is the oart nuumber. Fits fine on the 540. It's the original pinion from the Hornet which I believe had the same chassis but a 540 motor. The whole hop ups and compatibility thing is a nightmare. Tamiya don't make it easy.

To ensure longevity of life they recommend turning down the heat and increasing the windspeed , but keeping it as low as possible so as to not unnecessarily load the unit. They don't say crank it up, they say , Try and keep the Temp down as much as possible Increase the windspeed instead, but only as much as is necessary I've got mine on 5.5 Speed works fine

This is a documentary about a group of guys the the 2010s who built a plane that kind of looks like something Percy Pilcher might have designed in 1899 except for all the changes they had to make in order for it to actually barely fly. A factual documentary on Percy Pilcher would have been far more interesting.
