It was on nitro the whole time. Alcohol was was keeping it lit and running until it got warm. It got nasty when the overly rich Alcohol was turned off.

These things are WAY crazier than modern Fuel cars, all things considered. The sound, the landmine of drivetrain parts in your face/between your legs, tires 8" from your face, the fact that you had to wear a damn gas mask, haha! Something is badly wrong with people willing to drive these monsters, but thank the hot-rod gods for them.

The car started on methanol, then switched over to nitromethane when it warmed up. The distinctive crackle and pop of nitromethane is because it likes to outright explode rather than burn like other fuels.
