Awesome video as always! Quick question though - in a previous video you recommended a brand of 100% cotton terry washcloth that would be "perfect for making charcloth". Well, on your recommendation I purchased said washcloth and added it to my emergency "go-bag". Lo and behold my wife and I recently found ourselves in an emergency situation - my truck broke down on the side of the road as we were travelling to the flea market (the good one) and we quickly exausted our supply of emergency rations. The forcast had called for temperatures to dip into the low 50's and as night set in I knew I would have to make a fire if we were to have any chance of survivial. I managed to get a fire going (🔥) with my lighter and some gasoline siphoned from the tank but as I knew not when rescue would arrive I thought it would be prudent to make some charcloth! As the embers of my dying fire burned low I judged that the 100% cotton terry washcloth (recommended by TooMuchGearGuy) must have had suffient time to carbonize. Imagine my shock and dismay when I opened my altoids tin only to find a sticky, black glumpy substance! That terry washcloth was filled with 100% LIES. To make a long story short my wife and I were forced to resort to the custom of the sea and after I had ate my fill (I'm stronger than her) I remebered that I had a portable jump pack with cables in my backseat which got the engine started again in a heartbeat! Anyway, what im trying to say is, great video and if you know of anyone single send them my way since I guess I'm back on the market now.

Glad you put the disclaimer in the video to use a hammer to drive the spike first. I saw that in other reviews and thought it might snap on you. I noticed in the official video they don't show someone actually driving the spike into the ground. It has been in my shopping cart for a week and I am still undecided.
@Toomuchgearguy25 күн бұрын
Even a rock or log would work. It’s a heavier table too so making sure that spike is in the ground is important. It felt sturdy though and didn’t budge over night. What would be your main use for it?

You need a cameraperson so you don't have to do all that one-handed. Yeah, maybe that vertical zipper slot is so someone can hand you the shampoo bottle you forgot to bring in, when you're already under the water.

oh man that shower tent is sweet and there's a next size up? It looks like there would be enough room to leave a cassette toilet in there while showering? I like the feet on the heater so there's no need to hang it.

Yep there’s a 3 room tent. It’s huge. Definitely room for a cassette. I actually have it the other room. I use the classic 5 gallon bucket. There’s so many options and accessories for this thing. A lot of overlanders mount it to the side of their rigs. I’ll post more after this weekend. Should have the sink and awning setup for it.

The tent I backpack with uses my trekking poles and I try to use a more hefty stake for the two guy lines that hold the tent up because they have the most tension. It would be really neat to use one of those for that purpose just for getting out of the tent in the middle of the night and if it had a little remote switch I could use from inside the tent that would be ballin’

This is a pretty cool product, and we just bought one two days ago. The evening after buying this product, we found that one of the pols' elastic chord had been broken at one end and the segments of one of the longer poles would not stay together. So, after some work, we were able to tie a small nylon chord to both ends of the broken elastic chord. We contacted Kelty and got a huge argument from them about replacing the pole under warranty. They gave us zero options until I threatened to review them negatively on the internet. They then told me to destroy the shelter (cut it up and break the poles) and send pictures that we destroyed it, and they would send a new one. IT WAS JUST THE POLE! Why destroy the whole thing? After contacting a customer service (CS) manager, the CS rep offered to replace just the pole, but asked for a proof of purchase (which we had already sent them) along with pictures of the damage. Unfortunately, we didn't take pictures of the damage before we tried our own repair. Now, the damage is hidden in the pole segment and we would have had to break it to get to the damage to take a picture. So, we'll just wait for it to break again. Not sure I would purchase another Kelty product after this CS experience.
@Toomuchgearguy4 ай бұрын
Wow that’s unfortunate! Especially from a pretty well known brand and they have been around for a while. Glad you DIY though! Would be interested to see when it does break. I was worried about the pole quality myself.
