Bro do you think the perfect platonic forms in mathematics kinda makes abstract math objects feel heavenly in a sense where we can almost magically tap into them with our minds because they occupy some sort of objective realm?
@seiraph8 күн бұрын
I understand where you're coming from, but I'm not convinced that the existence of perfect platonic forms in mathematics necessarily implies an objective, heavenly realm. Couldn't these abstract math objects simply be a product of human cognition and our desire for patterns and structure? Our brains are wired to recognize and create patterns, and math is a tool we've developed to describe the world around us. The fact that math can be used to model and predict real-world phenomena doesn't mean that the math objects themselves have an independent existence. Maybe our ability to 'tap into' them with our minds is just a testament to the power of human reasoning and abstraction, rather than any mystical connection to a platonic realm.

But I think you're underestimating the uniqueness of mathematical objects. The fact that math can be used to model the world is not just a product of human cognition, but rather a discovery of eternal truths that exist independently of us. The Pythagorean theorem, for example, was true long before humans existed, and its truth doesn't depend on our beliefs or perceptions. The fact that we can access and understand these truths through reason and intuition suggests that they have an objective existence in a realm beyond the physical world. Mathematical platonism offers the most coherent explanation for the universal and timeless nature of mathematical truths, and our ability to tap into them is indeed a remarkable aspect of human consciousness.

Here's the thing, nominalism avoids the ontological baggage of platonism, which posits the existence of abstract entities with no empirical evidence. In contrast, nominalism grounds math in the tangible, empirical world, where our concepts and theories are shaped by our interactions with reality. By recognizing math as a product of human ingenuity, rather than a discovery of eternal truths, so in my lights nominalism offers a more down-to-earth and reasonable understanding of mathematics without all the baggage

@@seiraph I know you just love being on the most reputable side of the intellectual spectrum but hey, even my girl hates the fact that am a platonist in my wildest form😂 because I know there is a perfect version of her ass somewhere beyond intuition 😆 cap now am playing
