Can this plant get replanted direct into the ground ?

Help! I was gifted a ponytail palm and it was growing great until the leaves started turning brown. I’ve had it for about a year. I thought maybe it needed a bigger pot so I moved it and it continued to grow but it started to turn brown again. Then I read they like sunlight so I moved it outside for a day and forgot about it. I saw it and the top of the plant was pale Yellow. I figured it was scorched so I loved it back inside. The leaves started breaking and bending. I thought maybe it’s over watered. So I repotted it and added more sand and let it dry and then kept the roots closer to the and have watered very little. The leaves have stopped bending and breaking but they are like turning hard at the top of the arches. It still curves but the curves are not as flowing it’s more like angular curves. The some leave and browning at the tips like you said. Some are pale at the top and hard. And some leaves at the bar of all brown. I have no idea what to do to save it

ive had a ponytail palm for about 15 years, never repotted it and it's still going strong. got a much larger pot and will repot it soon, as I want it to grow big indoors. hope I don't kill it.

I have a ponytail palm that looked very healthy when I bought it. About 3 days after bringing it home the leaves started turning a dark brown/burgundy color. It’s not the tips of the leaves, it the core part of the leaves in the center. I cannot for the life of my find any info on what is causing this or what to do about it. I’ve looked all over the internet and KZfaq and I cant find anything similar to what is happening. I really don’t want to lose it but it just keeps browning more and more.

I just got one a few days ago not watered it yet but it’s already dropping and idk why? Should I replant it in my own soul even tho it’s not been two weeks? We mix our soil the same way and I have the same soil as well I was goin to repot into the same pot but it looks like some roots are coming out so maybe dropping from root bound ugh I love it and I don’t want it to die help please
