Seems like an awful lot of practice to avoid using fingers.

Keep on rocking Tommy. I’m 73 and the guitar is my savior. I’ve beaten carpel tunnel syndrome in both hands now I have trigger finger in my right hand ring finger, bugger! Hasn’t stopped me from picking up the guitar as much as possible. I agree with your logic, eat well, stay healthy that’s the trick. Cheers mate, Ren 👋👋🎸🎸

I'm a huge Santana fan and will always love Carlos and his band. But to me Carlos is a clear example of a guitarist whom's skills have declined as he ages. Yeah I know there will be a lot of people who will say he never was a highly technically skilled player in the first place.....but thats not the point. To me Carlos in the mid 70's up to somewhere in the 90's Carlos was at his peak in terms of fast melodic riffs and runs and then somewhere you could start to notice that he started arranging some songs that contained solo's that were his technically best into versions with a more Latin Lounge kind of groove in which the solo's were a lot simpler and easier to play. Depending on personal taste one may prefer the new renditions.....to me they are bummers have lost the power and dynamics they used to have. I always wondered why he started doing that and the only reason I can think of was that perhaps he started suffering of arthritis making playing the fast riffs too difficult.....or maybe just aging has slowed him down. Him still performing at 77 of course is admireable and power to him. And as he is carried by a fantastic group of top level musicians a Santana concert will still remain a great experience because people love to hear all the great hits. For me personally....I prefer to listen to the original renditions and watch live video's when he was at his best.

I've had my Led Boots pedal for around 10 years now. It's a beast! Hundreds of gigs and thousands of hours on that pedal. I think I heard of a rumored fallout between J Rockett Audio and Phil Brown. Wonder what happened?

Was fortunate to have my local band open for the Sons of Champlin. Next day I was sitting in a motel with Terry Haggerty (a hero) and getting some pointer and advice I use to this day. Bill Champlin walked in as were winding down and said- Don't forget the keyword in music is PLAY and damn Tommy E you emanate that through all you do. Love your passion and generosity of spirt-Thank You

Quality is infinitely more valuable than quantity. There are many guys who played their instrument right up to the end in their 80's or 90's, like Doc Watson, Les Paul, Bucky Pizzarelli, or Stephane Grappelli. And even in their sunset years, it is more enjoyable to listen to their tasteful playing, refined by decades, rather than some young gun who can spew out licks with no true depth of feeling or historical knowledge behind it.

Tommy is So sensible. Interviewers, doctors, employers see the grey hairs and immediately assume the stereotypes of aging as they interview exceptional people. Many of us, who would be considered "elderly"..are doing what we’ve always done, sometimes at an ever better level than in our youth. In this case the young interviewer, for sure would be left in Tommy’s dust as a musician..

This is something I've been noticing lately. Tommy's gotten to the age where guitar players start to lose a lot of their finesse, strength, dexterity, speed, etc. It's not as steep and drop-off with Tommy, but it's certainly noticeable. And of course it's inevitable. And it makes me a little sad to see sometimes. But I'm happy to hear that Tommy's still enjoying himself and has a positive outlook about it all.
