The other benefit of not grabbing the foot for the triangle is that it gives your other leg something to Slide Over.

1. Keep legs down, put weight on opponent 2. Keep arms in 3. Don’t grab own foot/toes 4. Keep legs up pointed north when on bottom and controlling side guard

Hey brother, I've been training bjj for almost a week now and the first time I was on the mat I was good no issues but then tonight when I was practicing my feet were not sliding at all. Is it good to put baby powder on them to help prevent mat burn as well as move easier across the mat? Please let me know. Thanks
@isbjjTV
@isbjjTV 4 жыл бұрын
Regarding mat burn, it does suck, specially when hitting the shower and the water touches the burn. ouch! You will adjust to the mat. In Brazil, their tatami mats had a ribbed material. Holding my opponent down from the collar as they moved would make my finger knuckles scrape the mat and that would rip skin. With time (usually less than a month) I adjusted my grips and became more conscious of it as well as my own skin became tougher to rip. 15+ years of training now and i rarely get mat burns. If anything, fingernail cuts happen more than mat burn. Your skin will toughen up, you will learn to adjust your positions as well. I would not worry about it. When you are done showering, if you want, you can care for it (neosporin) if you'd like, specially if you want to keep it from being infected. Training in Gi will make you have similar minor rips in your skin from collar grips, you will also feel your fingers sore, but at the end of the day, your body will adjust! Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and asking!

I only wear vans and converse.I never wear any type of open toe shoes...at some places I'm not required to wear open toed shoes am i? Because I'm happy In my vans.
@isbjjTV
@isbjjTV 4 жыл бұрын
If that's your preference than that's fine, however keep in mind, no shoes on the mat at all times. Outside of the mat, i don't think it matters. Open toed shoes may be easier to put on or off, but it's still your option.

#3 - It's also easier to apply leverage if your arms are closer to your core. I'm a hapkido guy, and most of our wristlocks are virtually impossible to execute if you don't tuck your elbows in, because you can't put any weight into the technique that way.
