Been told to "F*ck off" or "I didn't do it for you anymore" so much that I don't thank veterans for their service anymore. They did what I couldn't so f*ck me I guess.

It's not that deep. Just say thanks and move on. It's people just trying to be polite and supportive. I don't know why some choose to look more into it.

No thanks required. It was a privilege to serve my country. Like a republican Roman Legionnaire, I have a stake in the continuation of the greatest country that's ever existed. If I had died for my country, it wouldn't have been my own, but for my country's glory. Having said that, we should probably start focusing on the actual defense of our country and not every other one except ours...

E-7 and 15 years after 9/11. Just like everybody else I got broken. I got kids walking around at 20 that don't remember 2003 and the garbage we all went through. I wish none of it happened but I can only walk step by step as a man and try to live. Once you set yourself on that path as a kid it's so hard to tear yourself away from it. You'd fight and die for it. Well I fought and a lotta me died inside for it. But I'm still here. See you round.

Thank you for sharing this! Trying to understand my fiancée with PTSD from Afghanistan. Know what I'm "signing up for". Which is one of the most loyal and dedicated and hard working men on earth. With some brokenness too. And I wish I could help more.

I hate it when people say this to me. As a professional I always say thank you back and act politely, but in my head I'm screaming. I participated in an illegal war, invaded multiple countries, and toppled their governments. All I helped do was paint a bigger bullseye on our country, so you're welcome, I guess.

It takes a man to admit his mistakes and realise his failures and flaws. It doesnt change that he hurt his family. But he is proving that he is worth loving and that he wants to and will dk better. Love you man

They thought them breaking into just random innocent civilians homes and killing women and children wouldn’t effect them cus at the time they thought they were tough.. They chose to go and participate in destroying another country the Afghan or IRAQI people were defending there land just like Americans would defend there land if they were invaded. This PTSD is nothing against the Great Punishment they will suffer in Here After if they dont REPENT There is sickness in their hearts, and Allah ˹only˺ lets their sickness increase. They will suffer a painful punishment for their lies. When they are told, “Do not spread corruption in the land,” they reply, “We are only peace-makers!” Indeed, it is they who are the corruptors, but they fail to perceive it. (Quran 2:10 to 2:13)

We thank you for your sacrifice and willingness to join the armed forces. It is not an easy job but someone has to do it. I don’t ever feel awkward, when a veteran tells me in conversation they were in the military I thank them for defending our liberty and way of life with a strong hand shake and sincerity in my eyes. Happy Fourth of July!🎉

I have felt like this ever since i left Iraq in 2008. When thanked early after I kind of smiled, but now I dismiss it totally. I haven’t even spoke to anyone I deployed with in years. After a decade and a half I am just now seeking help, but only after years of drinking and jail
