Beautiful film. The drone shots add so much. Have you climbed Pacific Peak? I like the music you use in your videos. Another content creator on KZfaq once told me choosing the music is the hardest part of editing. I so agree, at least for me. 😊
@rugged9769Күн бұрын
Thanks Vickie. I’m using an old DJI mini 2 drone I bought a few years ago but haven’t used it as much as I like, primarily because I hike mostly in NP or wilderness areas. Also i only fly it if there is no one else around even if it’s legal to fly. When I do fly it is pretty fun and I like the footage it captures (my most viewed video from Utah has lots of drone footage). I have a couple of favorite license-free composers (Scott Buckley, Punch Deck) that I can choose from, complimented with other music I like from KZfaq Audio Library. It is time consuming but also a lot of fun. Pacific Peak is still on my to-do list. Want to combine that with a trip to Pacific Tarn

@rugged97692 күн бұрын
I may but it will take a while. Just did Maroon Peak yesterday and I was tempted to do the traverse but my partner didn’t feel comfortable about it so we ended up going down the same route. 2009 was a long time ago. You are one of those 14er old timers then
@Miderguy_5 күн бұрын
I was going to do this route Saturday. Do you think an ice axe is required? I also saw some comments saying watch out for crevasses. A lot of people descend Andrews Glacier but you're the first I see ascending it.
@rugged97695 күн бұрын
It’s probably good to bring an axe for safety reason especially if you plan to glissade down. I don’t remember seeing any crevasses when I went in mid July a couple of years ago. Overall it’s a pretty mellow snow climb. Have fun

Thank you for this hike video and showing the route up. I've always wondered if I could get McHenry's Peak or not because I do not like a lot of exposure, but I am willing to try some Class 3 approaches without too much of it if it's possible.
@rugged976912 күн бұрын
You are more than welcome. Enjoy your videos too. I heard people say McHenrys is more difficult than the Keyhole route of Longs and I tend to agree. There are sustained class 3 sections and can go up to class4 or higher if not on route. You can try getting up to Stone Man using the route I suggested in this video and see how you feel. After that you can decide if you want to tackle the next challenge (getting up to the notch or keyhole) which only leaves you a couple of hundred ft from summit. Good luck

Looks great! Glad y'all were careful, 3 days after you were up there, a man fell to his death on the traverse. It's always a sad and sobering reminder to be careful up there when something happens. Anyways, on a lighter note, I recently backpacked the Blue Lakes Trail up the SW ridge of Mount Sneffels, which was absolutely stunning with great scrambling, if you haven't done it already. I'd highly recommend it, especially camping at Lower Blue Lake and getting to Blue Lakes Pass at sunrise. That sunrise is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Good luck on your remaining summer trips!

I did this route solo in the spring back in the late 80s. I didn't have any trouble with the route, but now, seeing and remembering all that loose rock on that traverse, I should have worn a helmet! I did have an ice axe as it had been apparent from the view from Fort Collins that most of route would be on snow. I'd planned to descend via the Keyhole, as I'd been advised, but I couldn't resist the glissade below the Loft. I memorable experience that I was lucky to pull off! Thanks for the memories.

Beautiful hike! I hiked to Jasper Lake in early June when the lower portion of the trail was a flowing stream due to snowmelt. The upper portion of the trail was still under deep snow, making for a tiring trek. If you have not done so, consider hiking to South Arapaho Peak from the Fourth of July Trailhead. Great views at the top, but the four-mile-long Forest Service road to the TH is in rough shape. Capable hikers continue on to North Arapaho Peak.
