I really didnt like powerless from the start. Dnf'd it at 35% but should have realised at the first typo in chapter 1 that i was going to have a bad time.

Girl I LOVED TBOSAS, trust me you will too!! I don't know if you've watched the movie, which is so good too, but AHH I was/am so obsessed and cannot WAIT for the new book/movie! TBOSAS was quite long/big for my standard but I flew through the pages! Also - I am pretty sure Catching Fire is actually a lot of people's favourite of the trilogy! I know it was mine. :)

i hated powerless, poor writing through and through, no world building whatsoever, nothing’s explained, characters are introduced and disappear. literally if i hear ‘vicious little thing’ one more time imma throw the book against the wall. i heard the second book is even worse.

I was so disappointed by wild love. It might be my least favorite Elsie silver book, and I've read both her series 🤭 I do think you'll like the gold rush ranch series though, a photo finish (Book #2) is so freaking good!!

that;s funny, i wish i had all paperbacks for my emily henrys lol- yeah the first three came out as paperbacks, it wasn't until happy place it switched, but i have seen Book of the Month versions for at least PWMOV i think, but maybe the other two too ? but the UK ones, especially that ombre edge is so nice 😭 also almost fell for the powerless hype, but eventually the more i heard the more i realized i don't think i can do it, seems lowkey superficial respectfully. i read too much fantasy for these romantasy books that are basically only fantasy insofar as it benefits the backdrop (idk if that sounds judgy, but i just know it's not for me, same issue with fourth wing, just can't do it)

YOU SPEAK THE TRUTH ON POWERLESS!!! finally someone who agrees this is the wish version of the hunger games like i swear it was nearly a carbon copy but WORSE!! also as someone who loved *MOST* of the chestnut springs series, i was gutted when i had to DNF Wild Love, i just DID NOT like it and i HATED ford 😭 im so sad

Actually the hunger games is in Canadian school curriculums for English I had it in grade 9

just finished caught up and i totally agree that its the weakest in the series. i wanted the fun single dad/nanny dynamic... not a silly grown ass woman engaging in SO much miscommunication. I was soooo excited for Kai, too. but by the end, any time I read the words 'baseball daddy' I wanted to slam my skull on a wall. LOL

I'm genuinely obsessed with Ottessa Moshfegh, I love how she writes grotesque, disturbing, awful people navigating life.

I really wanted to like 'Normal People' but it put me into a reading slump, I guess miscommunication just isn't for me

Hear me out... I LOVE complex and unlikeable female characters. But they need to be written right. I really had trouble getting through My Year of Rest and Relaxation because nothing was happening and nothing changes at the end. If you're going to be unlikeable, there needs to be something else interesting about you. The only thing that I even remember from that book now is when she pooped next to the dog sculpture (lol). I needed more unhinged moments like that for me to really get into it.

I absolutely hated My year of relaxation, and I love complex characters..there is a huge difference between having a flawed character and a character who is being a piece of shit..the writing was so bad and pretentious, it made the main character very one-dimensional and, in my opinion, fully failed to deliver on the dealing with depression front

I wanna read Funny Story very soon, only read Happy Place before from Emily Henry but I liked that one a lot! Regarding that book which is written without quotation marks: I don't think I coukd stand reading that😮 especially as a not native English speaker, I would struggle a lot and it would make my reading process much slower I assume. Something else I wanted to mention is that since reading many romance novels since last autumn where the female characters describe the male characters as mostly "broad shoulders, trained body, deep voice, amazing eyes, (...)" when they meet, I started looking at men like this too which feels so weird! In my head a narrating voice pops in and tries to see all those features😅 Obviously, that does not apply to most men I come across (at least not all of those features at once). Does anyone else have that happen to them? Additionally, why do the female characters always have to be small? I assume it is kind of a trope but as being a bit taller than average, I would love a book to feature a tall woman.

Just curious, I know it’s a series but do you have to read them in order to understand them or can they be read as stand-alone romance books. Just wanted to know cause they sound interesting but some sound more interesting then others

Even though the book set puts assassins blade first it was actually published third if I'm not mistaken, and I think it works best reading it in publication order! It's obviously up to you what you'd like to do best tho

This Daisy Hates series sounds super interesting... I mean the concept of the two series, which happened at the same time. I just don't know if I can handle that much drama and miss communication😅

I haven’t read Hopeless (or any of the other books in the series) but I have a partner with severe ptsd due to his military service. IMO a lot of author don’t really get it right and leans into the stigmas :/ obviously I don’t know how Elsie did but I guess I’ll have to read the series to figure it out haha

Ok, you are the only person I "know" that reads romance and Knows what a healthy romance is, so can you recommend some titles with healthy relationships? I find Daisy Haites much better than Magnolia however, the final Magnolia book is pretty good. Hoping to get to The Chestnut Spring Series this summer. You should read "A Million Junes" by Emily Henry it's so good.
