Today is April 14, 2024 and I just completed this operation on my 2010 4Runner. Here are some notes which could be helpful. After reading reviews of the melting knockoffs on Amazon ($45) I purchased the OEM set on ebay for $149.99 plus my state's tax from seller PARTSYOUWANT. This was the lowest price I could find. Despite some bad reviews, my order arrived on the opposite coast in 4 days, superbly packaged. The (4) mouldings were fresh, not returns. I decided to do a THOROUGH job, which always takes far longer than advertized. (Note here that Google's spell-check wants me to use the American spelling "molding" but they prefer the British spelling "advertised". Is this an example of AI?) In my case I completed it in 2 hours. I cleaned the window and door area with SprayAway window cleaner (which I use all over the car routinely). I rolled down the windows and attempted to remove the mouldings carefully enough as to not break all those crispy tabs (total of 6). I broke 2. I used two of those orange el cheapo auto pop plug removal tools, the ones you get for a couple bucks in a set of about 8 trim tools. I got 3 of the 4 out without damage except as noted to a couple tabs - in case I needed to reuse them or sell them on ebay. They were still in good condition but I like to stay ahead of my deteriorating 4Runner. I ended up throwing them out of course. They required more convincing to remove than I was expecting, possibly because they still had some life in them. Then I cleaned the windows including that nasty strip which is usually covered by the belt moulding. I cleaned the gunk off the long metal tabs and coated the top several inches of the door skin with ceramic, as this was my only chance. I carefully placed the new mouldings on the slippery metal. That made the operation easier. I managed to guide the 6 plastic tabs into their holes in such a way as to not break them, which was a distinct possibility. There was only a litle clicking as they snapped into place, since the tabs were waxed. Nobody but me will ever know I did this. BTW, my 2010 has no screw in the rear moulding. Perhaps people who talk about that in the comments are referring to a different model.

Normally, I would say it was a great video. But you were standing in the way the whole time😢

For doing the rear window: Same thing but the screw is on the front of the door, closest to the front seat. Then there is a clip on the back of the trim piece.

Thank you!! I ordered the parts for our 2011 4 Runner. The box has set on yne shelf for over a year. I have bad experiences with any trim held by clips. 2 minutes into this video, I grabbed the box and in 20 minutes had all 4 replaced!! Thank you so much for taking tbe time for this simple replacement!

2009. Rockauto pn KT2011 There’s a ?t7? Screw at the front of the back window molding and the back of the front window molding. Remove before attempting to remove the old one. ALINE before doing the final snap down on the new one. Open door to find screw.

I live in the mid Atlantic and park outside. Does doing this help prevent the door and window from freezing after a good rain and then a cold snap? I've had that problem since my 2019 was new...I've never had the issue on a newer vehicle before.

Thank you! This is the exact video I needed. Took no time at all once I saw how to pry off the old weatherstripping. The tip about wrapping electrical tape around a paint scraper was great! Thanks again.

Hi. I bought the parts a few weeks ago from the dealership and installed them today using your video. Everything worked perfectly and took less than 5 minutes for all 4 windows on my 2009 Toyota Highlander due to your instructions. Thanks so much!

Did you happen to change the one out for the tailgate window? I have the part but not sure if I have to remove the applique panels, which I don't know how to do. Thx !! 2013 4Runner.

That's the outter one, what is the inner one called? Mine is worn out and leaving rubber marks on the inside of my window when i roll it down and up. The inner flap is folding down on itself.

Mine is doing the same thing . Leaves rubber marks and glue on the inside of the window when I put it down . Someone told me to just use a razor and cut the inside seal out . WTF ?!!

Did you ever figure this out. Mines doing the same thing, leaving marks when I roll it down. I definitely need to replace the inner and outer moldings.

Did you ever figure this out? The inner one is making marks on my window too. I definitely need to replace both the outer and inner moldings.
@--RSL-- Жыл бұрын
@@davidbellafiore7491 yes, there is an inner one and that needs to be replaced if it's leaving black smeared marks on the inside of your window. If you call your Toyota dealership and ask the person in parts, they will be able to give you the part number. Once i replaced it, all is good again.

Two years later and still helping folks like me! Thanks. Your video was just the help I needed and the driver's door is what I need to replace so I'm glad you did that one first! 7/30/2022 Update: Don't make the same mistake I did when ordering the part shown. There is an outside seal, and an inside seal. I had to make an extra couple trips to the dealer to get the correct part. Luckily, I didn't remove the old seal before getting the correct part. When I removed the old part, the clip snapped off and fell inside the door. Plus it was bent due to being sealed with some black gooey stuff holding it when I was prying it off. It wasn't reusable. Put the new part in and it works like a champ! Took 5 minutes!

Thanks Tim. For some reason the service manual has an incredibly involved procedure for this involving the disassembly of most of the door. I have no idea why - looking at it I figured it must be simpler as you've shown.

I wound just copy paste the part numbers need into whatever search engine you like and find a decent price where they dont screw you on shipping. They are sometimes on amazon or eBay. Ive had good luck with Rockauto.com and there are a few large Toyota dealers who sell parts online for below MSRP. Stock and best prices seem to vary from month to month.
