Hogan's ego and WCW/Bischoff continued to feed it. I like Russo even less than Hogan and Bischoff but one thing I respect is that he actually stood up to them and said enough is enough though it was far too late by then.

Predictable as ever, the people in here crapping on Bret are just sad. Bret told the truth, that the guy didn't have much experience, and Bret was probably right to question why, with a literal lockerroom full of several actual "jobber" guys that could have put this kid over, why Vince wanted him to do so. But he also did put the kid over, better than anyone else did, or could have. As usual, kinda seems like the only people being "bitter", are the Bret haters, not Bret himself.

They shit on one of the best and most built up storylines in wrestling history and thought it’s not Stings fault and he won’t say it, this was the beginning of the end for WCW. (Scott Hall voice)

I love Sting. But man, what’s up with his face paint here? His face paint in WCW was so badass. What’s up with the raccoon eyes style?

The problem is that fast count or not, Stinger didn't even attempt to kick out. A fast count is only controversial *if* Sting kicked out at a normal 2 count but the ref counted 3 before that. It looked like Nick Patrick could have counted to 5 without any issues. Furthermore, even after the 3 count Sting stayed on the mat, looking like an opponent that just got beat. Hogan looked confused. It's like all 3 had a different idea at that time. That's why I think to some extent everybody ballsed up.

Regardless of the reasoning, changing the speed of the count was a stupid idea that did nothing but screw everything up, there was legit no positive outcome to doing that.

After finding out Hogan wanted a regular 3 count, Eric should’ve told Sting to kick out at 2.99 instead. Then Bret could demand the match continue due to the false 3 count. Hindsight.

I swear, every single punk interview starts with him talking about something that is injured on his body😂. Is he made of glass or just making this s*** up? No one in the history of the business has been injured as often or as frequently as him. And he is straight up lying about requesting time off between 2012 and 13. You couldn't force this guy to take time off then because he thought he was the top guy and had a Harley Race mentality of working through injuries. Kudos to him for trying to work through the injuries, but you can't refuse time off and claim none was offered later😂😂😂.

It's funny how the AEW game turned wrestling with an injury into an actual gameplay mechanic, where you have to manage your time as a wrestler and choose whether to spend money on treating injuries. Suddenly Jon's story doesn't seem so unbelievable.

The funny thing is I think Sting and Hogan like each other despite this. They may not communicate regularly like Hogan and Nash do but I think Hogan and Sting enjoyed working together when it worked. It's just that Hogan and a lot of his guys saw themselves as WWF guys and Sting as that WCW guy. It was like the WCW invasion angle in WWF. Guys who got over in WCW were never respected in WWF as much as guys WWF brought up themselves. That said, legends like Roddy Piper and Randy Savage were definitely put in the background once they came to WCW. Sting, Flair, and, to a lesser extent, Luger, seemed to get more visibility than the other lesser WWF guys. But for too long WCW was "Hogan, Nash, Hall, and the NWO show." They went in for themselves and were partly responsible for ruining the company based on how they ran creative (although AOL Time Warner executives were the real ones to blame once Ted Turner was demoted because they wanted to do away with wrestling). As for WWF/E, they continued to show contempt for anything WCW when they had Sting job to HHH even though Sting clearly deserved better. But yeah, Sting--what a nice guy. We should all be more like him. It's something for a guy to be in the WWE HOF (which everybody is inducted into eventually, it seems) but he finishes his career in another promotion. I like that Sting never fully submitted to Vince McMahon's whims and stood up for himself and the integrity of his character by staying out of Vince's promotion as long as possible and then doing what had to be done when the time came.

It was a shit show. I was so pissed off because that was the first and last PPV I ever bought. After all that build up, the whole Crow Sting angle, Sting coming out and wreaking havoc on the NWO, then Sting finally talked, all that just to end up losing at Starcade '97. That was the most colossal disappointment ever. I was done with WCW after that. Never wacthed it again. And you wonder why WCW failed? I went over to watching WWE right at the best moment and never looked back.

Bischoff knows that Sting was on Nitro for pretty much all of 97 right? The way he tells the story about how Sting walked in and saw that he had not worked out or tanned, made it seem like he hadn’t seen the guy for a year.

The biggest wasted opportunity and stupidest decision in wrestling history. Sting was the most over that a wrestler had ever been and no one ever had more heat than anyone before. 1-2-3 in the middle of the ring. Done and over. That was the only answer and WCW f’ed it royally
