How do you tell visually the milk is ok or not ok at the strainer? What are the things that you usually look for?

We strip the udders on all cows before milking into a cup that has a fine mesh screen. You can see any problems

That was a great tour. I really enjoyed it. You have a great setup. The cheese making side of the farm is amazing. You seem to get a lot of cheese from the amount of cows you milk. Loved the chicken barn also.

Everyone is always surprised by how much cheese can be made by so few cows. They do go to “work” every day though! 😁

Nice milk great sign of advancement from 95 to 290 gallons for baling silage I reckon u need 100 hp tractor Drone is a great machine if a cow was calving in the far field 😂

My 75 horsepower tym runs the baler great. I think it might be the way the transmission is geared in the kubota. Not sure.

You are right about stacking bales. Those are actually just unloaded waiting to be wrapped. We wrap all our hay even dry hay. We don’t wrap our bedding hay though.

Why do you leave the horns on your cattle?
@balfourfarm
@balfourfarm 13 күн бұрын
This is one of the most asked questions! We have a cow our two that missed being dehorned. The group of heifers where actually dehorned by our vet and almost all of them grew horns.

Really love watching the rapport you have with your gals. ❤ I remember my grandfather talking to his dairy cattle as he milked them and how he always shared a tiny bit of the milk with the barn cats. He shared a special bond with all of the farm animals, as you do. Maybe that's partly why I'm so drawn to your videos but I love being able to watch part of your day and remember him.

Why do you leave horns on some of your cows and bull?
@balfourfarm
@balfourfarm 16 күн бұрын
We had a vet dehorn calves one year and over half of them grew horns. There is a cow or two that just missed being dehorned years ago but never cause problems.
