@@NelsonsWings The climbs were pretty fast at 450 feet per minute. I was surprised for how strong the lift was for a smoky day. I actually had to find an area of sink and spiral down to land. If I didn't have to work I would have loved to go XC. Just go until I can't go anymore

Good video. Isn't it usually South in the morning and north in the evening? (you can tell I don't live there).
@carlcolorado35496 күн бұрын
Spring time it's like that. Summer is whatever it wants to do. Locals only fly in the morning and evenings. So during prime time you get the whole mountain to yourself.
@NelsonsWings28 күн бұрын
Man, you hiked up pretty far. The only time I went to point of the mountain north side, I tried to launch from down low by the parking lot twice and sank out twice. That was a unpleasant experience. So I told myself that if I've ever back there I want to hike up but not as high as you did just go as low as possible just to get up into some wind and not sink out. It's a beautiful clear day for sure. Nice landing!
@carlcolorado354927 күн бұрын
@@NelsonsWings If you hike about half way up you should be high enough to fly the rest. This day there was no wind down low and the only option was to hike up to the top. On a good day it's pretty easy to fly from the grass! I've had lots of flights starting from the grass. Easy 5 hour flight, just need the right day.

I shoot in 1080 or 1440 because I haven't really found any major difference in quality between HD and 4K unless you're watching on a really really big screen (like 70"+) even then, its marginal. Like you said, editing in 4K is also a pain in the a**. Also, KZfaq usually defaults to 1080 or 1440 anyways like it did for me on this video. You should definitely add some more content, I love watching your stuff when I'm stuck behind my desk!

nice footage.. the 4k does look good. I hate shooting in it bc it eats up memory so quick and the editing is tougher but you make it look worthwhile. might have to try it. Can't believe how many pilots there are.. were those all ground handling people at the end, or people doing sledders? I thought aspen was busy some days! Rock on! 🙌

I always enjoy your narration. This looks like such a fun little place to fly. When I was a pre-P2, I used to watch tons of videos of this place. So I feel like I know it really well even though I've never flown it. I need to get up there and try it, it looks like it's a pretty mellow hike from the park. I'm wondering, how consistent is it? If I just drive up there some weekend do you think there's a chance it might work in the morning? I'm guessing that you only noticed the smudge on your lens after you uploaded the video haha! I added wipe my GoPro lens to my pre-flight checklist. How many hours you got on the Delta 4 now? Have you trimmed it recently? We bought laser rangefinders and built jigs and we're doing measurements at least on our gliders now. I did my photon couple of months ago, and it's still pretty close to factory trim. I sometimes wonder if you might have more success at this site and catching a thermal if you headed straight out tried to get as far away from the terrain as possible and maybe catch something where it's more consolidated instead of always being low and trying to get lift in the little bubbles that haven't coalesced.

Your combustion air intake the one with the filter should be mounted outside because if the heater flames out carbon monoxide can come back out from the burn chamber. Very dangerous if you are asleep when it happens.

@NelsonsWings6 ай бұрын
This is a very enjoyable video.Brings back lots of great memories. I really love the winter extended proximity sledders there. Good job on the forward. My biggest problem with forwards is my timing for pausing to let the wing rise overhead. I tend to keep running when it is still low behind me and not flying yet. It looks like they have extended the new road by the powerlines a long way since the last time I was there 3 years ago. It's also interesting to see how overgrown the old road to the old 650 is. Almost no trace of it in places. How far up can you ride on the new road?

That's pretty cool I've never seen the top of the mountain from the ground of only flown over it. What's the launch like up there? Do you have plent of room to lay out the wing? I miss Soboba. Haven't flown it in 2 years. Have they extended the new ATV trail all the way to the 1st "powerline" launch yet, or do you still have to hike the last 200 feet? Cool proximty. Why are they letting people park on the far side of the lz? That seems a little hazardous to me. Nice no- step Landing
@carlcolorado35496 ай бұрын
There's 2 spots you can layout but you are next to the power line. It's a great starting point up top. Just hook a right and you can soar the peaks quite a ways. A later flight I got a 9k flight to the casino and back. Didn't brake above launch but it was an awesome flight. Weather was pretty cloudy and not much sun was heating the ground. Think they did make the road higher up. Not sure the numbers. But they have two kubota's running people up, quite efficiently. Parking is probably from all the rain. People just trying to stay out of the mud. Not too sure.
