Then again if you saw their fathers/grandfathers doing this job sixty years ago without harness ropes or even a hard hat, they make these lads look soy.

The BBC would never celebrate good men like this now. They would never use terms such as 'real men' and 'linesman'. They would say lines-person and push the 'toxic masculinity' narrative! Any feminist who pushes the 'wage gap' nonsense should watch this video!

yep, we all definitely take these guys far too much for granted... we forget how much we rely on them, and think nothing of the danger they put themselves in for our own pleasure... i will take a minute of pause, for formal appreciation... they truly are heroes, putting their lives on the line (no pun), so others may share in the rewards of modern living. 🍻

A few L6 and L2 pylons featured’ not an easy job changing out insulators’ spacers and conductors’ they have to be at the right tensions and some towers can be tricky to navigate’ the grid is being modernised and quad bundles are being replaced by triple and twin conductors and twin conductors are being replaced by single conductors on 275 and 132kV lines’ I heard here that electricity can jump to a conductor that isn’t earthed and that reminded me of a tragic story of a linesman who died on a L3/L3c line in the highlands due to a conductor that wasn’t earthed and the energy company was fined thousands for it.

Why are quad bundles being replaced by triples? Is it something to do with less strain during high winds?

I don’t see anyone fighting to get women into the tough jobs like this!! This is why men earn more on average... we are prepared to do the most dangerous, gruelling jobs. We risk our lives doing the dangerous jobs - and because of that, we deserve to earn more, put simply.

They are 150ft up in the air while the wires on the other side of the tower buzz and crackle with 400,000 volts! :-0 These guys are the unsung heroes of the modern world, keeping the lights on for us all day every day.
