"Sous le ciel de Paris" is a celebrated French song that beautifully captures the essence of Paris through its poetic and emotional lyrics. The song was originally composed by Hubert Giraud, with lyrics by Jean Dréjac, for the 1951 film of the same name directed by Julien Duvivier. Although it was initially performed by Jean Bretonnière for the film, Édith Piaf's rendition in 1954 became one of the most iconic versions, solidifying her connection to the song and its themes. For Édith Piaf, "Sous le ciel de Paris" was more than just a song; it was a lyrical love letter to the city she adored and called home. Paris was not only the backdrop of Piaf's life but also a significant character in her journey as an artist. The city's vibrancy, romance, and sometimes melancholy spirit mirrored Piaf's own life experiences. Performing this song allowed Piaf to express her deep affection for Paris and its people, capturing the city's unique blend of joy and sorrow. At the time Piaf recorded "Sous le ciel de Paris," she was already an established star, known for her powerful voice and emotive performances. This period in her life was marked by professional success but also personal challenges. The song's themes of love, resilience, and the beauty of everyday life in Paris resonated deeply with Piaf, who often sang about love and loss. The lyrics of "Sous le ciel de Paris" depict various scenes of Parisian life, from lovers walking under the sky to the river Seine flowing joyously. The song personifies the sky, attributing emotions to it, such as happiness, sadness, and jealousy, much like Piaf's own expressive style. The song concludes with a message of hope and renewal, symbolized by the offering of a rainbow, reflecting Piaf's belief in the enduring spirit of Paris. Piaf's rendition of "Sous le ciel de Paris" remains a timeless tribute to the City of Lights. It has been covered by numerous artists and continues to be a beloved anthem that evokes the charm and romance of Paris. For Piaf, this song was a testament to her deep bond with the city and its people, making it an integral part of her musical legacy. References: 1. I think one of the words you said in French was "chanter". "Chanter" means to sing, " En chantant" means singing, but there are past tenses of these words as well. A singer (woman) is "chanteuse". She had a beautiful voice!

Yes, "chanter" does mean "to sing" in French, and "en chantant" translates to "singing." The past tense of "chanter" can be "chanté" (sung) in the past participle. As you mentioned, a female singer is called a "chanteuse." Indeed, she had a beautiful voice!

"Hymne à l'amour" is one of Édith Piaf's most famous songs, released in 1950. The song was written as a heartfelt tribute to her lover, Marcel Cerdan, a famous French boxer. Piaf and Cerdan met in 1947 and quickly fell deeply in love, despite Cerdan being married with children. Their passionate relationship faced a tragic turn when Cerdan died in a plane crash on October 28, 1949, while traveling to New York to see Piaf. This period in Piaf's life was marked by profound grief and loss. Cerdan's sudden death left Piaf devastated, and she channeled her sorrow into her music. "Hymne à l'amour" was born out of this intense emotional turmoil. The lyrics reflect Piaf's deep love and the immense pain she felt after losing Cerdan. The song encapsulates themes of unconditional love, loss, and longing, portraying her willingness to give up everything for her beloved. The song begins with a stark metaphor for the fragility of life: "Le ciel bleu sur nous peut s’effondrer" ("The blue sky above can collapse on us"). Piaf uses this imagery to convey the unpredictable nature of fate and her feeling of helplessness. Throughout the song, she expresses a love so profound that she would sacrifice anything, including her life, to be with Cerdan again. The line "Je donnerais ma vie pour qu’il revienne" ("I would give my life for him to come back") highlights the depth of her devotion and despair. Musically, the song was composed by Marguerite Monnot, a close collaborator of Piaf. The orchestration, arranged by Albert Lasry, enhances the emotional weight of the lyrics. The melody complements Piaf's vocal performance, which is filled with raw emotion and power, making "Hymne à l'amour" a deeply moving piece that resonates with listeners. Over the years, "Hymne à l'amour" has become a symbol of enduring love and heartbreak. It has been covered by numerous artists and remains a beloved classic in French music. The song's legacy is a testament to Piaf's ability to transform personal pain into universally relatable art. In 2015, following the terrorist attacks in Paris, the song was performed during a memorial service, highlighting its enduring emotional and cultural significance. Source: 1. Édith Piaf, also known as "La Môme Piaf" (The Little Sparrow), wrote "La Vie en rose" during a significant period in her life. The song emerged in 1945, shortly after World War II, at a time when France, like much of the world, was recovering from the war's devastation. Piaf, known for her deeply emotional and often autobiographical songs, found herself in a moment of personal happiness and romantic fulfillment, which greatly influenced the creation of this song. The inspiration behind "La Vie en rose" is often attributed to Piaf's relationship with Marcel Cerdan, a French middleweight boxing champion.Their romance was passionate and intense, providing Piaf with a profound sense of love and happiness. This relationship played a crucial role in the development of the song's lyrics and emotional tone. Piaf's life was marked by hardship, including a tumultuous childhood, personal losses, and struggles with health. Despite these challenges, her romance with Cerdan brought her a sense of joy and hope, which she sought to capture in the song. "La Vie en rose" represents a stark contrast to the pain she often experienced, symbolizing a rare and cherished period of bliss. Piaf wrote the lyrics for "La Vie en rose" herself, infusing them with her personal emotions and experiences. The lyrics reflect an idealized view of love, portraying the world through a lens of affection and contentment. This was a deliberate choice to contrast with the more somber and reflective themes found in much of her other work. While Piaf penned the lyrics, the melody was composed by Louiguy (Louis Guglielmi). The collaboration between Piaf and Louiguy resulted in a song that perfectly blended her emotive lyrical style with a simple yet captivating melody. Piaf's performance of "La Vie en rose" was characterized by her distinctive voice and powerful delivery, which resonated deeply with audiences. The song quickly became a hit, capturing the hearts of listeners in France and beyond. For Piaf, "La Vie en rose" was more than just a song; it was an expression of her deepest feelings of love and happiness. The song's lyrics convey a sense of seeing the world through "rose-colored glasses," an idealized perspective brought on by romantic love. This was a significant theme for Piaf, whose life was often filled with turmoil. Writing and performing "La Vie en rose" allowed Piaf to escape from the hardships of her life and immerse herself in the joy of her relationship with Cerdan. The song became a personal anthem of hope and resilience, encapsulating a fleeting yet profound happiness. Beyond its personal significance to Piaf, "La Vie en rose" also served as a cultural symbol of post-war recovery and optimism in France. It resonated with many who were seeking solace and beauty after the devastation of the war. Source: 1. [Biography - Édith Piaf](www.biography.com/musician/edith-piaf) 2. Serge Gainsbourg, born Lucien Ginsburg, was a multifaceted French artist, known for his provocative lyrics, boundary-pushing music, and turbulent personal life. By the late 1960s, he had already established himself as a prominent figure in French pop music, known for his wit, subversive themes, and eclectic style. During the time leading up to the creation of "Je t'aime... moi non plus," Gainsbourg was involved in a high-profile relationship with Brigitte Bardot, a major French actress and singer. Their passionate affair inspired the original version of the song, which Bardot later requested to be shelved due to its explicit content and her marital status. The inspiration for the song came from Gainsbourg's desire to express the intensity and complexity of romantic and sexual relationships. His affair with Bardot provided the emotional fuel, but it was his relationship with Jane Birkin that brought the song to life for the public. Jane Birkin, an English actress and singer, moved to France in the late 1960s. She met Gainsbourg on the set of the film "Slogan" in 1968. Despite an initial language barrier and a tumultuous start, the two quickly became one of the most talked-about couples in Europe. Birkin had recently ended her marriage with composer John Barry and was navigating the Parisian art scene as a foreign actress. Her relationship with Gainsbourg marked a significant turning point in her career and personal life, as she embraced the French culture and language. Birkin's willingness to embrace Gainsbourg's provocative style and her ability to convey both innocence and sensuality made her the perfect partner for "Je t'aime... moi non plus." Their chemistry, both on and off-screen, translated into the recording studio, resulting in a song that captured the raw and unfiltered nature of their relationship. Gainsbourg and Birkin decided to re-record "Je t'aime... moi non plus" after Bardot's version was shelved. They wanted to capture their own passionate dynamic and challenge societal norms. The song's explicit nature and its portrayal of sexual ecstasy were deliberate choices to provoke and push artistic boundaries. The recording took place in 1968 at Fontana Studios in London. Gainsbourg's deep, murmuring vocals combined with Birkin's breathy whispers and moans created a unique and intimate sound. The intensity of their relationship is evident in every note, making the song an authentic representation of their love and desire. The song solidified Gainsbourg's reputation as a daring and controversial artist. It also marked the beginning of a highly creative period in his career, leading to more experimental and boundary-pushing works. His relationship with Birkin continued to inspire his music and public persona. For Birkin, the song and her relationship with Gainsbourg propelled her into the spotlight. She became a muse for Gainsbourg and a beloved figure in French pop culture. The song helped her establish a lasting career in music and film, transcending her initial image as an English actress in France. Source: 1. "Je t'aime... moi non plus" is a French duet song composed by Serge Gainsbourg and originally recorded with Brigitte Bardot in 1967. The song gained notoriety and commercial success when re-recorded by Gainsbourg with English actress and singer Jane Birkin in 1969. The song's lyrics are a dialogue between lovers, expressing their passionate feelings for each other. The title translates to "I love you... me neither," reflecting a complex interplay of love and detachment. The song is known for its explicit sexual content and sensual whispers, making it controversial at the time of its release. The original version with Brigitte Bardot was recorded in late 1967 but was not released until 1986 due to Bardot's request. The iconic version with Jane Birkin was recorded in 1969 in a more explicit manner. Birkin's moans and whispered vocals, combined with Gainsbourg's deep voice, created a sensual and provocative atmosphere. Upon its release, the song was banned by several radio stations and condemned by the Vatican. Despite, or perhaps because of this, it became a commercial success, topping charts across Europe and selling millions of copies worldwide. "Je t'aime... moi non plus" is considered a milestone in pop music history. It paved the way for more open expressions of sexuality in music. The song has been covered and parodied numerous times and remains a symbol of the 1960s sexual revolution. The song has had a lasting influence on music and pop culture, often referenced or used in films, television shows, and commercials. Its provocative nature continues to spark interest and discussions about the boundaries of art and censorship. Source: 1. JACQUES BREL wrote "Ne Me Quitte Pas" in 1959, during a tumultuous period in his life following the breakup with his lover, Suzanne Gabriello. The song is an emotional outpouring, a plea for his lover to stay, encapsulating the depth of his sorrow and despair. Brel's lyrics are filled with poetic imagery and extravagant promises, such as offering "pearls of rain from lands where it never rains" and creating a kingdom where his lover would be queen. These promises reflect Brel's desperate attempt to convey his willingness to do anything to win back his lover's affection. The repetitive refrain, "Ne me quitte pas" ("Don't leave me"), emphasizes the intensity of his plea and his fear of abandonment. If I'm not mistaken, this “Ave Maria” by composer and conductor Igor Krutoy is a work in vocalize format, completely unpublished, although it seems to be a variation of the initial theme (not the introduction but the singing part) of the melody by Schubert adapted to Dimash's voice in order to explore just as three initial notes and changing the fourth note to a higher note (From B4, A4 D#4 C#4 and B4 to G#4, G4, G4, D#5): Like a leap from "dark to light" which is the same contrast as Dimash's outfit (from dark to light)! It also seems to refer to the Russian V. Vavilov's version of "Ave Maria" (wrongly credited to Caccine) and work by JS Bach - Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846, with arrangements by Gounod, which Maetro Igor Krutoy has a predilection for!

👉 Just a few notes and Dimash's angelic voice... and people all over the world melt away. An angel does not need words to convey his message... Everyone understands! I have never heard anything more beautiful. This is a magical new classic masterpiece that people are sure to hear in 300 years. For Christians, Mary is the Mother of God. But Mary is also revered in other religions: in Judaism she is considered the greatest daughter of the people, in Islam she is the mother of the prophet (not God's son) Jesus. The Ave Maria (Eng.: Hail Mary) is one of the most commonly said prayers in Christianity. A Muslim and a Jew created a new grandiose masterpiece. It needs no words and therefore a prayer for all people in this world... breathtaking, touching and simply beautiful. When Dimash asked Master Krutoy to compose a new Ave Maria for him, he imagined an angel... Dimash said in an interview... and the two are overearthly wonderful. I'm lost for words. For me, Dimash is the difference between the music business and true art. Over the past 15 years, the soprano and producer Andrea Chudak has collected over 200 compositions 'Ave Maria' from all eras of music history. A compilation of 68 selected 'Ave Maria' versions gives 'a striking overview of a repertoire that can hardly be grasped in its entirety', says Andrea Chudak. 'From Gregorian chant to arrangements of successful folk songs, to occasional works by composers who have been successful in other genres, and contemporary pieces..."(operetta-researchcenter) Wow, 68 Ave Maria settings from 7 eras... but now 69! I mean, this song is on the same high level as Schubert's or Vavilov's (Caccini's) Ave Maria... also beyond all spirituality, just wonderful music. * Igor Krutoy ( piano), *1954 in Ukraine SSR. He lives and works in Moscow/Russia. He is singer, a world- famous composer and music titan in Russia (billionaire). His family lives in the US. Krutoy came out of retirement to write songs for Dimash. The maestro and Dimash have been working together from time to time since 2018. They are friends and have a father-son relationship. Maestro Igor Krutoy shared the story of the creation of the work 'Ave Maria' for Dimash. When writing a hit, Krutoy is guided by the Italian principle: every composer is worth exactly what his latest work is worth, which means that all previous successes and achievements do not count. “On one of the nights, about three months before New Wave, Dimash called and asked if I could write 'Ave Maria' for him and he explained that he wanted to sing something in that style... Coincidentally, I had a spare evening, and I happily sat down at the piano and, inspired by the memory of the Italian formula of responsibility, worked until I achieved the desired result. It took me a few days to 'let' the composition 'lay' in my ears, soul and heart, and sent it to Dimash, who replied literally within half an hour that: ‘This is exactly what I wanted to hear', said Krutoy. It is not without reason that his friend and teacher, the maestro Igor Krutoj, predicts: “Believe me, in the future the world will be at Dimash’s feet.” (www) * Dimash and Stepan Hauser - Ave Maria - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qrCVapqnnMrOfok.html You should watch a video of a world class ice skater from Russia dancing to Ave Maria sung by Dimash: * Anna Shcherbakova ice dancing to - Ave Maria - Europeans 2022 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nsdipLt00c_FmJs.html * Dimash as a vlogger. In December 1971, Pink Floyd found themselves at the Europa-Sonore studio in Paris. This period was crucial as they were refining the multi-track mixing for the film "Live at Pompeii," a project shot by Adrian Maben. This session involved overdubbing music and sound effects to enhance the original soundtrack. It was an important phase in their career as they were transitioning from their early experimental phase into the more polished and conceptual style that would characterize their later works. The primary motivation for this session was to improve the quality of the sound for "Live at Pompeii." The band aimed to expand the eight tracks recorded at Pompeii into twenty-four tracks, which would allow for richer and more complex soundscapes. This was part of their broader effort to push the boundaries of what was technically possible in music production at the time. At the time of this recording, Pink Floyd was on the cusp of releasing "The Dark Side of the Moon," which would come out in March 1973. The band was already well-known for their innovative music and live performances, but "The Dark Side of the Moon" would soon catapult them to unprecedented levels of fame and commercial success. This session in Paris was part of a particularly productive and creative period for the band. During this session, they worked on overdubbing parts of the song "Echoes." David Gilmour and Richard Wright doubled their voices for "Echoes," part I and II, while Roger Waters and Nick Mason were involved in the booth. The session was marked by a humorous and relaxed atmosphere. The band shared oysters and beer, which added to the convivial spirit of the recording. They engaged in light-hearted banter about various topics, including their music, the role of technology in music, and reflections on their journey as a band. This session highlighted their camaraderie and the strong personal bonds that existed within the group. Sources: 1. "Pink Floyd - Chit Chat with Oysters" video from December 1971, recorded at the Europa-Sonore studio in Paris. In December 1971, Pink Floyd was at the Europa-Sonore studio in Paris to enhance the multi-track mixing for their film "Live at Pompeii." This session involved overdubbing music and sound effects on the original soundtrack, with David Gilmour and Richard Wright doubling their voices for the song "Echoes," while Roger Waters and Nick Mason remained in the booth. The main goal was to improve the quality of the multi-track mixing for "Live at Pompeii," a film shot by Adrian Maben. The band worked with recording engineer Charles B. Raucher. From the original eight tracks recorded at Pompeii, they managed to expand them into twenty-four tracks. The session was filmed using a Coutant camera on 16mm black and white reversal stock. The rushes were rediscovered by filmmaker Adrian Maben and are now preserved at the Cinémathèque française. The footage provides a candid look at Pink Floyd more than a year before the release of their seminal album, "The Dark Side of the Moon." The video captures the band's playful interactions and dry humor, with Roger Waters being particularly noted for his sharp wit. The recording session included a spontaneous oyster and beer feast brought in by their roadie, Chris Adamson, from the Brasserie Lorraine. This led to lively and humorous conversations about various topics, including their music, the future of technology, and their internal band dynamics. The band made fun of themselves, journalists, and the clichés surrounding rock musicians, providing a glimpse into their personalities and the strong bond between them. This session is significant as it shows Pink Floyd during one of their most productive periods, right before they became internationally renowned with "The Dark Side of the Moon." At the time, Pink Floyd rarely gave interviews or engaged with the media, making this footage a rare and valuable document. Sources: 1.
