Look into the ozhitch. Very easy to connect (self aligns the last little way), and is a VERY solid, completely visible primary connection and secondary lock. Also can eliminate towball / coupling rattle. As a side benefit because they are relatively uncommon, it makes it more difficult for old mate to knock off your trailer in the middle of the night. And not stupidly expensive.

The DO35 is king that’s for sure. When we got our new caravan home the first thing I did was ditch the ball coupling. Never looked back 2.5 years later.

Hi Gus. Agree on the caravan weights, not enough people do it. just watched your video on the weber slide. Great information/inspiration. Do you have any details on the slide you made/extended. I'm elbow deep in doing the same. I was going to use a 800mm slide to get the clearance/extension

Hey Adrian, I used 2 sets of slides to make one set, this enabled the slide to project 150% of its closed size. The slides are in 3 pieces. I removed the smallest of the sliding arms from one pair and mounted it to another slide with all three sliding arms intact. Enabling the slide to extend one stage on the slide with the piece removed and 2 stages on the slide that remained intact when fitted. I hope that makes sense.

ALKO also make a pin type fully articulating coupling which you can tell is connected correctly. Significantly less expensive than the DO35.

I am not aware of any alko fitting with a pin, I know they make an “off road coupling” that utilises a tow ball. That said there are several companies that make “hitch pin” type couplings, I am not sure of their details the most common by far is the DO35 and thats the one I am obviously most familiar with.

G’day. Very informative thank you. Have you found the interaction between vehicle and van on the road much better? Cheers 😎

Great product. I've fitted one in my Eco-Tourer van. Unfortunately there wasn't room to fit it after the pump but have installed it pre pump after checking with Topargee and It's working perfectly..

Was the $400 total cost for van hitch and tow vehicle tongue?
