Please beware. The adjective "unique" cannot be qualified. You should not say "Very Unique" because unique means "one of a kind." A thing is either one of a kind, or it is not. It is either unique, or it is not unique. A thing cannot be very unique, or quite unique, or so unique.

My zinnias look exactly the same! Almost all my flowers do right now, just this week. It's odd because we haven't had much rain lately and I don't water them but they all started looking like that this week,even my morning glories! They looked great last week. They did get heavy rain early in the season but not recently. We have very high humidity right now so that was the only thing I could think of...too much water earlier in the season...its just odd to me that its all the sudden this week. We did have a cooler temp week last week and it's back to very hot this week. Maybe they aren't in the best shape this year and couldn't handle it? I'm in WV.

As my flowerfarm is situated in denmark I can tell a similar story, because we had lots and lots and lots of never ending rains this year. To be correct I have to say, that it has been raining in our part of denmark nearly every day since nearly one year. I can't see rain any more!! I messed up two successions of flowers, because I'm not used to deal with such amounts of water. As a result we have so many slugs, although my chickens do their very best. And of course there are also some other issues like fungal diseases of my roses and so on. 🙄 I'm afraid, that with climate change it could stay like this in our region. That would be horrible, to be honest. But I wish you the very best!! You are glad to be able to switch off the irrigation. My irrigation from above isn't that easy stoppable. 😅 ;) 🤗🌻

I'm absolutely feeling with you!!! And I understand you so well!!! So many flowerfarmers experienced that this year, changing weather conditions and resulting increased pest pressure ... a cocktail out of devils kitchen in terms of flower (or veggie) production. The experience that no one has time when you desperately need help is also well known 😢 Don't be sad, you're not alone!! And you are brave and go on and you share it with us, so that we also don't feel alone with these same problems! Thank you for this!! I think you will find a solution and its also a new experience and adventure in your life, don't forget that. You just can get into problematic situations if you try something, and would you like to live a life without adventure and trying out new things? I wouldn't like to ;) And: my farm is about 10 minutes away from where I live at the moment, because I have to renovate the old buildings. Its very difficult not to live there, because you never can use some free minutes for working in the fields. I think that makes it much more difficult for me and probably also for you. I could imagine, thats why you need workers to help you. But its not easy to afford those helping hands, thats clear. I'm curious about the solution you were talking about! I wish you the very best and hope, that everything turns well for you!! 🤗🌻🌼

I get you but she has an active business and that’s a lot different than working for a company who pays an hourly rate or salary. An average income is even less guaranteed for her than us, but she would have many more expenses than we do. It would be very easy for her business to fall off if she for whatever reason, cannot break even. We don’t deal with that, this is a whole different ballpark than just being low income. And because of that your comment was not only rude, but tone deaf. It’s her video, you go elsewhere.

I like to use mostly annuals which are cut and come again. They bloom until the frost. I have tried different flowers and learned what works best for me. If you are just starting out I would grow, zinnias, cosmos, celosia, ageratum

@@hortonsflowerfarm5098 thanks for the info! I’m decent with potted plants/flowers but know that mid scale farming will be drastically different. So I was curious if care was taken into account. I’ll be purchasing in the next year and plan on allowing an area for a small farming flowers and an assortment of other plants. So I’m trying to learn all that I can.

I have lots of extra flowers from my farm and a florist in town asks for buckets of what ai have available. It’s not as profitable as selling retail but it keeps the flowers getting cut to come again for the whole season instead of just deadheading and composting them. It was intimidating to make the florist cold call but it is a win win for both of us. She and her customers are excited to have local flowers added to the arrangements.

I'm not sure if you ever talked about your opinion about spring sales. I've heard other flowerfarmers talking about the importance of spring and autumn sales, versus the difficulties of summer sales. From that I got the impression, that it is important to get in contact with the customer as early in the season as possible, just to build up a relationship as early as possible. Would it be possible for you to provide some tulips and daffodils in spring? For my own flowerfarm (year 2) spring is the best season. I feel with you!! I know how it is to wait for customers!! 🤗🌻

@uteberg4781
@uteberg4781 25 күн бұрын
@@hortonsflowerfarm5098 Thats a very good idea, but maybe its other customers who buy seedlings than those who buy cutflowers? I don't know, but in some cases could be. No matter who is buying, its still a good idea selling seedlings. But maybe you could attract some early cutflower customers with early cutflowers in spring? Although I know (being a flowerfarmer in the second year) its lots of additional work! I'm just thinking that you have the hardest start possible, if you just sell in the hardest sales-season of the year. In spring its much easier to sell and customers get to know you. I'm living in denmark and also selling in Germany. Both lands have fields for customers to cut flowers for themselves and they start in spring with tulips. I don't know if its managable for you, not living directly nearby. That could be very challenging and maybe not worth it.

It can takes months to get a business started. Hope the vibe from the news stories help. You need to find other ways to get people to the farm - parties, etc. Maybe childen's birthday parties with smaller discounted bouquets for the children's of included with the price to rent out a space?
