Thank you so much, i appreciate your content. The point at which i wasn't clear was when truing the front to the back pattern. I wasn't clear on the notches that weren't matching up on your pattern. I wish you had used a colored pen or pencil to indicate those points. Still, thanks for the effort.

Thanks so much for flagging this! It's a really good point. Annoyingly I can't go back and edit the video, but I'm going to do a full video on best practise for truing seams, so I'll include this content again with lots of colours so it's clear 😊

Nice, clear tutorial. I've never seen this system before. Iinteresting shape of the front dart.
@PatternMakingWithLeigh
@PatternMakingWithLeigh 6 күн бұрын
Yeah I only saw it when I started working in the industry. They don't really teach this dart in books or universities - maybe because you need to drape it, rather than use flat pattern making? It's so good though! It's the most efficient way to sculpt the front, and you can really sculpt the under bust too. Also, don't know if you've ever used the slash and spread technique to combine two darts on a 'standard' block? But when you put them together the dart gets really big, so there is always a risk you'll get a sharp point over the bust when you sew it. But this type of dart is really small, so it looks great over the bust.
@annazann7236
@annazann7236 7 күн бұрын
The more details the better, if you ask me :). A question though: when centering a grain line you moved top point of the sleeve to the back slightly. How do you still have 1cm and 0.8cm ease (f en b), when curves have now different length than when originally drawn? Is this this new top point suppose to still end at the shoulder seam?
@PatternMakingWithLeigh
@PatternMakingWithLeigh 6 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for flagging this! I should have made it more clear in the video. The shoulder notch doesn't move. I've just moved the 'line' I used to draft the head, so it is in the centre. Does that make sense?

Very good and detailed lesson. I like the on-depth approach with the why and how as well as how to correct it if something has gone wrong. Since not everybody has a (fitted) dressform, is it possible to show the corrections on the flat tpile as well? Is there a way to reduce the draglines in a fitted sleeve without creating an elbow dart?
@PatternMakingWithLeigh
@PatternMakingWithLeigh 6 күн бұрын
Great questions! Thanks so much for commenting. Do you mean drag lines on the lower half of the sleeve? So, when the arm is (naturally) bent there are some lines? I've never done this before (professionally), but I don't see why you couldn't slightly tilt the sleeve below the elbow, and ease the excess in (rather than having a dart). Let me explain... For a fitted style, the elbow dart is usually 2.5cm (1"), which is way too big to ease in without seeing any gathers. But, if you halved the amount (or maybe slightly more than half - depending on your fabric), I don't see why you couldn't ease it in, rather than creating a dart. The amount would be small enough so you wouldn't see any gathers, but you'd still be able to accommodate the bend of the arm. Does that make sense? Now that I'm writing this, I think this is actually a really great idea. I might have to do a V2 Sleeve video on it. 😊

This is such a great idea! TBH I'm not 100% happy with my mannequin either, so need to do some research. I also want to do a video on how to 'pad' a mannequin to your measurements - would that be helpful? All the big designers in the UK use K&L mannequins. They're amazing, but a bit expensive! But, you can keep a look out for second hand ones. www.kennettlindsell.com/product-category/mannequins/
@romangladiator1106
@romangladiator1106 6 күн бұрын
@@PatternMakingWithLeigh I believe a video on mannequins will be particularly helpful for many people, especially if it includes instructions on how to 'pad' a mannequin. Once someone learns how to properly pad a mannequin, they’ll likely realise they don’t need to invest in an adjustable one. Overall, I think it would be a great video to add to your growing collection.

Hi Tine! That's a great idea. The Guide (that comes in the kit) does cover how to fit the block, but I can do a video too - it's always easier to see in a video. 😊 I'll let you know when I've created the video. With sizing, I'd go for the bigger size, so you have a bit of ease - 2 cm of ease (around the bust, waist and hip) is the industry standard.

Hi. I checked your website, and the oversized shirt guide is sold out, unfortunately. By a rough calculation on this category, may I understand the ease for this block around bust and hip is 40cm or 15"? Just to clarify, isn't it a little too much? Because even for the size 6, the flat width of the garment is 63 cm (126 ÷ 2) or 24" (13/16), which is a big number. I listed my email on your website to be notified when the guide is available. Just in case, is there any pdf version of this guide available to be purchased? Thank you.

Hi Nemo, Yes, the ease is 40 cm. The block is supposed to be oversized, so I'd go down a size if you don't want it to be too big. And yes, unfortunately the guides are sold old. I'll let you know when they are back in. We are working on a PDF version too, which will hopefully be available soon. Let me know if you have any more questions. Leigh xx
