I just purchased this on Amazon and I can’t work with it. Am I doing anything wrong? It crumbles and when I try and roll it it’s all cracked. I can’t really knead it either

My Nara clay was more pink than beige and kind of like a taffy consistency. Waiting to see how it dries overnight. Can’t imagine sculpting with it because it droops and doesn’t hold its shape well. You think my stuff is expired or is that just how it is?

Hii i made cold porcelain clay using the homemade method my clay is perfectly fine when i made it but after storing it for a day it became soo sticky it sticked to my hands the ziplock bag everywhere can u help me 1)is it because i cooked it for less time i used every ingredients correctly 2)my second question is i still made the charms with this sticky clay using a moisturizer to avoid stickiness And the charms shrinked a lot like almost 50% they became soo tiny is it normal Im soo sad can u help me i want to make cute clay stuff😢😢😢
@AJoyfulClayTutor2 ай бұрын
Hi, cold porcelain clay is a work in progress and requires experimentation to get it to the right consistency. BUT because it is glue and cornstarch it is forgiving. It is nothing you have done to under cooked or over cooked. If it is too sticky, you add a little bit of cornstarch at a time and mix it in like bread dough, or then if it gets too dry when you added the corn starch you add a bit of glue and a bit of face cream. You have to Play around /experiment around with the consistency. Tis the nature of the beast. This clay will shrink by about 25%. so what you want to do if you want your charms to be about the size of a quarter add about 1/4 inch more. Again experiment!! I like to make test tiles to see how much this clay will shrink. Make a rectangle or rolled out snake about an an inch long, let it dry for a day or two and measure it again. For example: If it shrinks about 1/4 inch make your clay charm 1/4 inch bigger. Experimenting is key. Once you get it right cold porcelain is one of the strongest clays to make charms or flowers.

Hello! Your videos are very helpful as i started learning about airdry clay! My question is, can air dry clay rot? I had a box of air dry clay for about a year on the shelf and when I opened it, it was all black and smelled strange. I thought it might just be dirty or maybe itvwas mold? Thanks!
@AJoyfulClayTutor2 ай бұрын
Hello, Yes air day clay can get moldy! You can try to salvage it or just throw it out and chalk it up to experience. If you are working with an earth clay, sometimes you can slice away the mold like you would a moldy block of cheese. If it throughout the clay I would toss it. If it is just the surface I would after cutting away the mold rub it down with vinegar or bleach. Hope this bit of info helps.

Try adding some bees wax or candle making wax 👍
@AJoyfulClayTutor3 ай бұрын
Okay, wax is one material I hadn't thought of but am unsure how it would work. Melting wax is not feasible, I know you cannot warm up this clay or it will melt and turn to mush, if I flaked the candle wax, it would give it texture but would it harden? I will have to experiment with this suggestion. This has been an quite experiment in progress.
@Horus8453 ай бұрын
@@AJoyfulClayTutor actually you can melt it down to liquid form , add wax , corn starch , once it cools down it will become hard , to use hardened clay you have to reheat for application .use a heat gun

Does the varnish makes the clay pieces food safe as well?
@AJoyfulClayTutor3 ай бұрын
Hello, varnish will not make it food safe nor will resin. They are both hardened chemicals that could leach into your food. Did you know that the glaze they put on pottery actually is glass that has been hardened in the kiln. This seals the clay and make it non porous and food safe.

With air-dry clay that is not been colored with anything..I always paint it with white gesso before I paint it. But, once you have used food coloring to color your clay what is the next step that you do, because you wouldn't want to use gesso and make it white. Help?? 😊
@AJoyfulClayTutor3 ай бұрын
Hi, I am using Diy cold porcelain clay that I made with glue and cornstarch. I add the food coloring and use the clay to make all sorts of items. I like that I don't have to paint it. If I do paint it, I usually wait until it air dries and then use acrylic paint let it dry and then seal it with water based polyurethane. Food coloring doesn't work with wet clay. With wet earth clay it is a good idea to let item dry, then paint it with gesso to give the clay tooth and the paint and seal as usual.

So I made a beautiful air dry clay ladybug pendant and it is very thick.... It is in the process is drying now ..... Because it is a ladybug, it exceeds the one fourth inch thickness. Is this always a requirement?
@AJoyfulClayTutor4 ай бұрын
Hi, Because you are working with air dry clay, the thickness of your piece doesn't really matter because you are not kiln firing it. It will just take longer to air dry. Patience is key. One forth of an inch is a just a guideline. A lot of clay is fragile and it seems one fourth an inch is a good thickness. Enjoy your ladybug!! -Tressa

Should you allow air dry molds to dry in a flat surface or on a rack?
@AJoyfulClayTutor4 ай бұрын
I guess it depends on what you are making! Sometimes you want your piece to be flat other times you want it to dry curved. So experiment and see what works for you!
