Honestly, keyan Charlie was wrong about this being annoying- though I can see it grading if you do a straight marathon.

It's so insane to me that I'm just a tad a year older than he was when he recorded this. It's one America's greatest tragedies to not have footage of this man doing these takes. With us only being able to 1954's Yesterday's, we could only imagine what a sight this core moment could've been aside from any club gigs anyone attended. The Goat, period.

Is it just me or is the very beginning of the recording doctored, like they've poorly spliced in an extra repetition of the moonlight motif? It sounds like this on the official record too. I'm wondering if some bigheaded editor decided it sounded better with the extra repetition when Costa intended to leave the repetition out!

My dad - a jazzman - taught me to "know" Art Tatum, when I was 4. I could, actually, distinguish between a number of jazz-pianists at that age - and my mother taught me about the classical piano-music. She was good at Schubert herself.😍

Listening to Mr. Costa's playing is like watching flowers open under time lapse photography. Perfectly organic with a divine symmetry that is perfect. He imbues the music with beauty.

This to me is Tatum's greatest reccording. Too bad it's apparently just a home recording while he was fooling around on someone's home, piece-of- crap, out-of-tune piano and it just cuts off at the end because they ran out of tape?

One of my favorite recordings is the 1953. After listening to the four, I still feel that one is the best, but that could just be my bias after listening to it first. Also, the recording quality seems noticeably better.

I listened to all three tonight , twice. Although I have been an Oscar Peterson fan for 50 years , and Art Tatum has set a standard that may not be surpassed, I am really blown away by Costa. His technical ability and virtuosity , clarity of sound , interpretation of the piece and the nuances and surprising melodic riffs he applies to Tea For Two are almost otherworldly. One gets the feeling that there is really no limit at the innovation and sheer genius that this man gave to the world.
