Why this kind of dirty form in fish tank
@lacibiddle924326 күн бұрын
So what do I A:do with my fish B: I have a shit load of sludge everywhere from the filter messing up after being super dirty and having to clean it and changing my filters also C: it's got stuff all over the glass. And my filter won't clean it bc it just sticks to the walls o. The outside of the filer bc it won't let it go up in the filter. Idk this video helped zero percent. I have no alsge in the tank also.

I stopped using it because I started losing fish and switched to Seachem Prime as it offers protection against toxic ammonia and more. I haven't lost any more fish since.

The cheapest most foolproof sump ive ever seen consisted of a 5 gallon Lowes bucket, a hang-on filter sock holder, filter sock, and return pump. Excluding the return pump, the entire cost of the sump was less then $20. And it worked great.

how u the "fish tank guy" but you have rainbow gravel, fake neon plants, & terrible decore?
@volcanixthanksyoufortheviewz2 ай бұрын
So you can add them, but be sure to also have the API test kit, so you cam keep track of the levels in the tank as time goes. I prefer to use Seachem Prime and stability. Prime converts ammonia, chlorine and chloramime into less toxic chemicals and stability helps Jumpstart a tanks cycling.. i use one full tiny bottle of the Seachem stability when starting a tank, it helps that BB get going! But also, lots of floating plants can help maintain the ammonia levels while the tank is 'fish in' cycling. ❤
@TheFishTankGuyАй бұрын
There's really no quick and easy way to cycle a tank. It's either a long wait and easy or a short wait and difficult!!
@volcanixthanksyoufortheviewzАй бұрын
@TheFishTankGuy Yeah thats so true 😅I guess quick is relative i have time perception issues, lol I think mine took about a month before levels stopped fluctuating, but now that I have tons of cycled media, making new tanks take about a week to stabilize. I do fish-in cycles, but I also keep hardy fish like endlers cause I'm new to the hobby overall. I've just been keeping for about a year and a half. Oh it did help me when I used leaf litter from a local stream for things like scud and copepods 🥰

I have a 55 gallon tank with 20 gold fish and 2 sucker fish. It is a new tank and not established. What do you recommend to add to the water for PH level control and de-chlorinate the tap water also how often to change the filter?
@TheFishTankGuyАй бұрын
How new is the tank? Did you cycle the tank at all? If not, all of your fish are going to struggle and possibly die...I hope you did cycle first! As for what to add to the water, I swear by Tetra Aquasafe Plus!
@Whaleydavey2 ай бұрын
There is only one way I would ever be prepared to use Quickstart or Fritz zyme or stability, and add 2 fish the first day, and that is to do 2 x 40% water changes a day, everyday, for 3 weeks, and plant lots of plants from day1. Much easier just to let it cycle naturally. Getting established media is not without some risk. I have gotten sick fish from the local fish store on occasion. It is simply not possible for LFS to be entirely parasite free. And there is a far greater chance of getting a pathogen on a dirty sponge than on a store bought fish.

I like API for the mostpart. Quickstart OR ANY other product like it, does nothing except buy you slightly more time...and I do mean slightly. Use it as a tool but NEVER depend on it. Unless you have a good ratio of live plants to each gallon, you will be doing alot of water changes throughout the nitrogen process. The only time Ive had to do zero water changes during the process is now, with my first planted tank with at least a 2 plant per gallon ratio. The plants did it all, and grew like they were infused with Co2. Plants are the very best filters which are key to a stable aquarium. First time Ive actually had 1.
@JTCT3713 ай бұрын
This stuff is flawed and can be catastrophic in certain scenarios.....I found where it CANNOT be used. Fluval Stratum and alot of driftwood creates a naturally acidic PH....I ended up with snails in a plant shipment, and realized they need a neutral PH to fully function, so I used a little crushed coral to jack the PH up. Thankfully I had no fish at this time, as I did an experiment with Purigen. In less than 2 hours after putting it in my filter, it took a 6.8 ph and completely crashed it. Luckily snails seemed to handle that ok. If I had fish, it would had been much worse. Im not saying that its bad in all scenarios, but the moral of the story is....Dont jump on a bandwagon. Seachem did not put a distinct warning on their packaging about it, which is irresponsible of them. Before using any product, experiment with it separately first.

Honestly, if you use the stock pump that comes with the tank, I think you'll be OK. It's more powerful than most Betta tanks, but shouldn't cause any problems.

I have the tank setup no water just the tank. ready for aquascaping and extra stuff like plants,substrate and rocks

@@DfryOfficial that's awesome! My recommendation, since it's your first tank and also a 5g,would be set it up with no live plants/soil at first. I’m so confused on the filtration do I keep the carbon filter or sub it with more sponge ? And do I put in media?
@chrise86773 ай бұрын
What I did was keep the spong filter and took the carbon filter and cut out the blue filter pad, I then took a sheet of polish pad filter material and cut it to size to fit in the now empty carbon filter frame. It basically acts as a mini filter sock. I also hung a mini resin bag in the back chamber. As long as you replace the pad every few days abd perform a 2 gal water change weekly they system remains very stable
@chrise86774 ай бұрын
So a little bit of advice about the pump upgrade. At full power it will over pressure the elbows and pop them apart causing water to go everywhere. Turn the flow dial all the way from + to - and everything will stay together and you will still get a huge increase in flow from the stock pump. Im also upgrading the nozel to the IM spin stream universal nozel to improve random flow in the tank without having to add a powerhead.
@chrise86773 ай бұрын
*update* I replaced the flaired outlet with the innovative Marine spin stream for the ability to get random flow without having to add a powerhead to the tank. With this upgrade, I was able to crank the upgraded pump to max output and remove one of the elbows, allowing for maxim random flow in the tank!

Thank you for sharing this! I was driving myself crazy trying to figure out what was wrong. What added confusion is I accidentally added some warmer water to aquarium, so I expected the watee to be a bit warmer. But then the temperature never went down. Once I realized that the water temperature seemed to be coolee than what thrme thermometer was reading I figured there might be something wrong with the thermometer itself. Turns out it was off by 4 degrees, which makes sense because it kept showing 84F when i had the heater set to 80F. Poor fishy had to go through so much messing around with the temperature. Wah.

I'm just not a big fan of the manufactured live rock and white base rocks. They're either too uniformly purple and/or too uniformly porous. I do miss the authentic live rocks with their inconsistencies in color and shapes. I should've stocked up on live rocks and lace rocks when I had a chance.

Freshwater tanks are as complicated as you make them. The main factors imo are really good lighting, good substrate, and flow. Heavily planted with easy plants and low fish load you could go 3-6 months with no water changes and only do top offs and large 50% water changes to avoid old tank syndrome and replenish certain minerals/dilute saturation of others and whatnot. overall it's more about setting yourself up for success by setting up a tank according to the type of maintenance you want to do.
