Amazing! "On 7 August 2016, while leading the road race at the Olympic Games, van Vleuten crashed head first on the steep descent from Vista Chinesa after missing her braking point before a sharp bend, 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) before the finish. The crash knocked her unconscious, and she was hospitalized with three lumbar spinal fractures and a severe concussion. Despite her injuries, van Vleuten was riding a bicycle within ten days of her accident and made a winning return to competition one month later, taking the overall victory and two stage wins at the Belgium Tour."

What's right. Female commentator's pronouncement or male commentator's pronouncement of 'van Vleuten'. Which origin has the female commentator? Her pronouncement is as far as I can imagine to get the rider's name correctly. I would have guessed the 'v' pronounced as 'f' and 'eu' more like German pronouncement of 'EUro' as in ö and not o.
@azothe19964 ай бұрын
they are correct on the "vleu" part of the name but the last part "ten" should be prononced more like you say verstappen they dont insist enough on the letter e in her name.In dutch "v" is prononced the same as in english but the "e" is not.

When I watched that on the day, I could see it unfolding in seconds before, cos she was on wrong side of road for the entry into the turn, making it impossible for a safe exit so panic braked locking up the rear. Was a bit of a dangerous downhill section with too many switch backs.

I wonder if you have the same opinion of the men's routes?? Or are they expendable?
@michaelangelos51175 ай бұрын
@@graemebarber2248 hey that's actually a really good question. And I have the answer. Women can race with men. Their bodies are actually set up pretty well to be bike racers because they have a lot of leg strength compared to their overall weight. And I did race with a couple of women who would race in the men's group. But these women had to have SUPERIOR bike handling skills. There was Madonna Harris, who could race with any man in our group. And then we had a girl who was on the US ski team and I forget her name but she could corner great. And then another girl and I also forget her name but she was a great bike handler. In general, women do not have the bike handling skills that men have. I think it's basically because of the fact that women are not exposed to as many sports as men. What made me a dominant by candler was my ski racing background. And that's pretty much what you got to have. More of an experienc thing. But we also had a guy on our team named Steve tibbetts and he was a world-class 10k runner Could win any hill climb. Couldn't go around a corner to save his life.
@gerrysecure58744 ай бұрын
Yeah, anybody can go downhill straight. There is no too dangerous, there is only too little capability.
@michaelangelos51174 ай бұрын
@@gerrysecure5874 absolutely true. Part of a bike race is by handling ability. If you don't have bike handling ability, you're off the back or crashed out.
