David - I am a novice home brewer. Can you advise how much water is used for the 60 min mash. Then how much water do you use for the sparge. If the whirlpool is buy hand should I double the whirlpool time? Are the fermentation temperatures critical as I dont have a fridge. Thanks.
@DavidHeathHomebrew21 сағат бұрын
Hi James, these are calculations that will differ depending on what you are using to brew with equipment wise. The easy way is to use brewing software, one good example would be Brewfather. This software has an equipment section that covers all systems and if you are using a pot you can enter its dimensions and it will give you the volumes to use for recipes. Yes, a wp by hand will take longer for sure. Fermentation temps are important yes. The easy way is to ferment somewhere colder and use a heat belt and temperature controller. You will find this series of videos useful:- kzfaq.info/sun/PLeY07JqsrXM_biHp7Y3xIB7TnAY6Ru7pE&si=Vj2b_hkAPcqqwtfm

Thanks David - another very useful video. I bought one of these recently and found that I need to adjust the locking ring to fit my crown cap iTap. What's frustrated me is the fact that Boel don't supply the required Allen key along with what's a quite expensive iTap accessory - and as far as I can see, they don't even say in the brief instructions what size of Allen key is required. I have a good set of tools, but not a 1.5mm key, so ive just had to order one.

@FermentationAdventures7 күн бұрын

@@FermentationAdventures Clearly we all have our wishes and needs, I can only really report on things as I experience and see them. Very nice video!! I managed to get this in EU a few weeks back and I am amazed at how good it is. It surely is great for filling bottles from the Fermzilla and my keggerator too. The only problem I noticed was the silicone and plastic tubes. If they get damaged, it's very hard to find alternatives (my gas tube was ripped during transportation). The gas tube is very hard to fit to the steel tube, and if you have a problem inside the machine and need to replace it, it's almost impossible due to the chosen connections. I would love to see a more serviceable design with some barbs on the steel tube and easier connections on the inside regulator. Overall, though, it's a fantastic product and has made my bottling process much smoother! The calibration was smooth also!

Hi David, thanks for the informative video. I tried your recipe and got some fiew quesions that came up during the fermentation: Just after 36 h my SG was at 1.015 (start 1.070) and I was unsure about adding pressure to the Fermezilla before the 4 days as reccomended. I also added the dry hops to the worth on day 3 and added pressure on day 4, when the SG was at 1.011. My question is should I have done something different? And how long should I have the Fermenzilla under pressure before I transfer to the keg? Thanks for any advise!
@DavidHeathHomebrew8 күн бұрын
Hi 😎 This is fine. You will only consider this finished when you are seeing no change in SG for 3 days. The days at pressure are judged by this as well as when to transfer. 🍻🍻🍻

I have a couple of cases of dogfish head, worldwide stout, 23% alcohol by volume. I have the analysis from the lab dated October 2002. Its specific gravity was measured at 1.029. These are the dogfish head bottles that have “vim and vigor” marked through with the magic marker. I’ve been drinking these bottles since I acquired them in 2003 I still have a couple cases left and I can tell you that they have absolutely no carbonation however, they taste like a nice brandy, still very drinkable. You can actually still tell that it’s worldwide stout. It still tastes like worldwide stout. The sense of the high alcohol has diminished over the years, but it’s still quite potent.
