I was a nurse at Danta Monica Hospital in late 1970’s and Mary Pickford was a patient there dying. She was in a private room large and typical of hospital room. Such stark contrast to life she led. One day at work I arrived and was told she had just died. Sweet, quiet, kind elderly lady…..

I have visited Hearst Castle 3 times & was amazed every time! I am so glad it was restored & is being preserved & taken care of! It would be a shame on so many levels to lose this amazing place! This video didn’t mention that Hearst also had wild animals there!

I was a frequent visitor at the castle in the 1970s. My favorite things were the pools. I’m delighted that both pools are fully functioning. My bucket list is to return to the castle and dip a toe into the Neptune Pool

Yes, I visited Hearst Castle. I believe it was 1987. I was astounded to find out the architect was a woman. I then studied Julia Morgan and was absolutely amazed at what I learned. I was very impressed with the castle and everything around it. It is a fantastic place. I'm shocked tht anyone would ever have thought of tearing it down. I'm so glad it will continue to exist as a tourist attraction for the people of California and elsewhere to enjoy.

The Robinson Estate was left to the County of Los Angeles Parks Department because Mrs Robinson knew that the city of Beverly Hills where her home and grounds were located was not known for any historical preservation. Mrs Robinson made the correct choice and home and incredible grounds are all protected.

I've heard about The Beach House of William Randolph Hearst and actress and mistress Marion Davies. She had a wonderful interior style sense her parties were the talk of Hollywood! Same with Alla Rambosa and, Garden of Allah. The oldest of the silent stars who was in the Edward ian era!! Started in the 1890's on Broadway and by 1913 when it was built she was in silent films. By the 20's she was close to the end of her career and she expanded it to the Garden of Allah Hotel. Buster Keaton's Italian home was beautiful! The William Jenkins home was really beautiful! Falcon Lair Rudolph Valentino was their in 1923? After him and Natasha Rambova were finally married? Glad the garage and the gate still around. I would like to dive deep into The Buster Keaton Home.

I knew briefly Pia Zadora having met her in my London flat.In Los Angeles i was visited again at my home by Pia who told me she was buying with her loving husband the beautiful Pickford mansion with intention 2 demolish.I was shocked something so much a part of Hollywood would be destroyed and i questioned why the rights to destroy were allowed? Lisa Marie Presley+Priscilla also hoped the Pickford mansion would be saved. That was a bad start to Hollywoods demise when it began to be erased i thought.

Why doesn't California have historic preservation laws? What a shame! The architecture from turn of the century through the 40's can't be reproduced today. One can't afford to and we don't have the artisans. The woodworks, ceiling medallions, the arched windows, the hand made tiles, ornate iron work, magnificent fireplaces! The use of gold and silver leaf. The handmade, hand carved furniture. Lost forever! Even smaller homes around the area, the charm, almost storybook. The homes of today all look alike! Housing areas of house after house, all painted the same! How do they find their way home? Wake up California, you need to pass some preservation laws to save these works of art! Some areas realize some are too expensive to maintain and turn into public museums or into condominiums to save.

Destroyed the beautiful Victoria house which cost the modern equivalent of 100,000,000 pounds and built a brutalist, Soviet style monstrosity in the 1960s for the modern equivalent of 7,000,000 pounds. What a travesty.

Cistercian monks were important because of their efforts to spread their farming techniques and the uses of water power to advance society. They had Abbeys all over Europe and they shared their technological advances between these Abbeys and then the monks shared them with the local farmers.

It’s such a shame it was torn down. It may have needed upgrading as most older homes do but I doubt very seriously it was torn down because it was haunted. Usually they doesn’t rid you of ghosts anyway. It was a gorgeous piece of Hollywood history & should have been sold as such. They don’t build homes with that type of opulence anymore. It would have been extremely profitable as a haunted hotel.
