Bought my copy. Its beautiful! I am happy that out of 5 cuts of the movie, 3 are here (only missing the extended Japanese version and the original theatrical cut shown on the Tai Seng VHS tape). The extended Taiwanese has extra color saturation with no speckles. The extended HK cut has the original color and lots of speckles and on the BLU Ray disc, both cuts are played in their original speed. Even the cut German version has great picture quality. The original 2.0 mono sounds are fantastic with no stupid, annoying remixes. The only things that are missing is the notes and menus being in English, the other 2 cuts, the original theatrical trailer and the Cantonese track for the extended Taiwanese version (which probably doesn’t exist). Plus, a huge photo gallery and interviews with the cast would have been nice. Otherwise, this is the best version ever released digitally ever! It’s definitely worth the $70 I spent on it!

Wow, 70 bucks! I'm glad you like it! This is probably the best available version of the film at the moment and will most likely remain so for a long time due to the unfortunate situation with the distribution rights of the Golden Princess titles.

So how is the picture and sound quality? Worth buying?

Well, I cannot compare it to any other version other than the old HK DVD and the picture and sound quality is much better than that. I can't say if it's real HD or just an upscale. I'd say it's worth buying if you don't have the movie on Blu-ray yet and if you don't mind that, even though the label vehemently claims that this is an officially licensed release, there are many signs that indicate that it is in fact not.

@@cialis76 stimmt! Für alle, die nicht schon die HKR Scheibe besitzen, ist das sicher die beste verfügbare Version. Bezog sich auch mehr auf die doch etwas undurchsichtige Rechtelage bei dem Film und die seltsamen Screenshots auf der Rückseite. Das große oben ist aus dem Videospiel Stranglehold und hat nichts mit dem Film zu tun und unten hat sich ein Screenshot aus dem Film "A Better Tomorrow" eingeschlichen. 🙈

Well, there is indeed an actress called Maggie Cheung in the movie. She is called Cheung Hoh-yee. However, she is not the Maggie Cheung from the Wong Kar-wai movies, who is called Cheung Man-yuk. Even more odd are the photos in the booklet, imo. Most of them feature the movie's title in Thai. 🤔

No, this is the original version with the fixed camera. This steelbook version was released in Germany in 2005.

@@XXTeo85 as far as I know, every version after this original release starting with Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (an enhanced version of the game which came out a few years later) has the 3rd person camera.

Not really. It's basically a copy of the HK Blu-ray which has an upscaled picture and only a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD upmix of the original Cantonese audio track. No original stereo available. And sadly there are no good alternatives available of this awesome movie on Blu-ray to my knowledge.

@@alexxtwin Some are on ebay. Just bought the Hard Boiled one. Will be impossible to get now it seems. I am annoyed I did not buy The Killer HKR bluray now. Might turn up on ebay at some point

@@ps5stuffguy ok, so it seems the owner was in way over his head and took forever to ship out orders with people waiting for months for their orders to arrive. Some of the Blu-rays indeed are on ebay. Can't find The Killer though. Do you think the download option still works on the HKR website?
