10:42. "BA must get out of IT and gain the world." I have been a BA since 2018 with two different companies. My experiences has been frustrating as my scope of practice (no matter the job description) ends up being nothing more than a glorifed Jira card writing secretary. Ive been caught in philosophy and methodology wars between Waterfall and Agile gurus and managers. I would love to be able to practice at the wide scope the BABOK and IIBA describes! Thank you for the comment. Challenge the status quo by questioning the reasoning of the requirements you are elicitating. Don't wait for the mandate to do strategy analysis. Just do it. 👊

You had some really good questions prepared, mate! Well done. I'm transitioning from ITSM, through agile coaching now to BA and it surprised me to hear that the basic need for structuring through tooling had been underdeveloped for so long. Maybe I have been spoiled form an ITSM perspective, but knowing myself, I would fall in the same trap as apparently has been true for many colleagues and feel disorganized, but most of all the capability to share knowledge and reuse artifacts seem of paramount importance. So great to hear this is on the increase. What I was hoping for, was to learn about more concrete tips to find my way through the different toolings now available, and in my Google search, one of the results brought me here. It gave me more insight into the world of the BA, I will check internally as well; My tendency is to go on a scavenger hunt myself first, to then go with my results to compare notes with others. I will have to reverse that plan of attack for this one ;-)

From my experience, the tool is not the hardest part of implementing Requirements Management. There is a culture shift and basic concepts that must be available. Take a look at this other video that might be useful: thebrazilianba.com/2020/05/21/requirements-management/

I agree, culture shift is very important; I have learned over the years that having a solid view on quality of my own process helps me to mitigate the noise that comes up when arguments are being raised to resist change. Even the good kind. And especially quality is a notoriously hard to proof and report on KPI. With tools dedicated to your craft to show e.g. the cost of inaction, or the benefit of certain ways of doing things, when you can speak your own language and your own truth so to speak, making improvements visible is so much easier. Still not a walk in the park but much less wading through oil than without. And I’m looking for it as a placeholder for me to navigate this new realm, I tend to find my way more easily through a structured dedicated tool. Thanks mate and again, great interview!

Question: how and where do you see the role of UX/UI (especially UX), in your overview?

The UX expert is also a Business Analyst, by the fact that they have to understand the user needs and design the best experience. When someone is exclusively responsible for this role, he/she is usually part of a development team, assigned full or part-time depending on the size of the organization and the complexity of the product being developed.

I may add UX expert and BA both looks at user needs but UX involvement more on design experiences and BA have more involvement in data analysis management outside UX realm.such as business, web analytics digital marketing, data processing close to data analyst.

Love this. As a full stack PO, or better yet PM, a quick analogy I can think of is being sat in the centre of the room with three groups of people around you, 1. the business, 2. the customers/users and 3. your product/ dev team. Collaborate with all three groups to discover what to build, why you're building it and how you'll be building it!

@@TheBrazilianBA Its just my guess thinking how an AI can write code to change business rules and respective code to reflect BPM system. Im wondering it will take 5 years from now become operational. Considering current systems too.

@@TheBrazilianBA well it depends on what you mean by the term architecture, but I think most people do design. Myself adhere to the ISO 42010 defintion of architecture and you can look upon an enterprise as a system. Also, a lof if bussineses includes offering things like cars, trucks, surveilance radars, trains, ... and thus that is also included in desiging the "business" whick I see very few "bussines analysts" / "bussiness architects" deals with. But that is of course based on my personal work experience.
