I always thought there was some irony that the EO condemn the Bishop of Rome being prideful (I agree) and believing that one person can change church teaching, but then loves Mark of Ephesus (a single person who prevented a ecumenical council teaching). The “whole” church accepted the teaching but one man decided he knew best and prevented an ecumenical teaching. I almost converted to EO and strangely the more I studied the early church the less comfortable I became of the Imperial church. Also, the New Testament seems to be very critical of asceticism and making numerous rules that make it difficult for people to have a relationship with God. When I discovered the “saints” that were praised for staying on pillars i rolled my eyes. When I discovered that Emperor Constantine was declared a saint by the EO I was shocked. Forget all the conspiracies and just a basic understanding of how that man lived his life clearly indicates he was no saint.

If guys like this Baptist minister can’t be persuaded by all the videos Jason has done, including with a former Baptist Presbyterian minister, then you just have to worry about the level of indoctrination he’s undergone because Jason‘s many points are irrefutable as Baptists are comfortable in their error. One thing you can be sure of is that if you want to be a protestant pope, start a non-denominational/credo-Baptist Church.

These two guys are making Baptist churches sound like glorified cults with their indoctrination, you’ll know what I mean if you have interacted much with Baptists in your life. Maybe there’s a reason it appears that way. Most Baptist churches get every major area of doctrine wrong. It’s a simple as that. While Jason keeps repeating that he considers many Baptist as his “brothers in Christ,“ I don’t think he realizes they usually don’t feel the same way about him or about anyone outside of their denomination whether southern Baptist or Independent. That might not be the case with James White , but it is with many others and they will tell you so as I’m not making it up.

In the beginning, you're listening to William Law and William Smith. Both proven anti-Mormons and bitter enemies of the Smiths. The troubles in Kirtland were nothing compared to the complete failure of all federal banks and currency during those years. Joseph was just trying to prevent a run on the banking system of Kirtland. He failed, and because his name and signature graced all the currency notes, he was forced to flee for his life.

I found a few arguments here and there against icons, but I was honestly surprised that I could find no one who had directly engaged John of Damascus' claims. After I finished this video, I discovered Father Richard Price's work on the Seventh Ecumenical Council. He states on page 42, ". . .the iconoclast claim that reverence towards images did not go back to the golden age of the fathers [i.e., 325-451], still less to the apostles, would be judged by impartial historians today to be simply correct." That would be the source I would most recommend. Price is Roman Catholic and yet he undermines the historic claims of his own church. What so-called atheists don’t realize is that God makes it impossible not to know He exists as even their consciences reveals that to them as well as the world around them if they could admit the overwhelming evidence of design. Where else would the human conscience come from as there’s no evidence that animals have them. That said, some people are very good at suppressing theirs but they still know right from wrong at some level. The other thing is where do they say that forces that make life possible on earth come from? In other words, how could evolution create gravity, centrifugal force, inertia and friction, without which there could be no procreation, could there?

We have a video on them here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eqeTlqiH3cqvook.html Infant baptism and worship on the first day of the week are the historic practice of the church. Baptists throw out the first, because they say there's no explicit proof text for it, but they retain the second when there's no explicit proof text for it. The SDA rightly points out the inconsistency. Our hope is that seeing the inconsistency, Baptists will adopt a more Reformed and less restorationist way of approaching Scripture. @@ancientpathstv Infant Baptism isn't a uniform practice throughout Church History. From the 5th century onward it becomes more uniform. Throughout Church history you don't see unanimity on infant Baptism. And by the time we do in the 5th century onward, we see it tied to Baptismal regeneration. Which, I assume, isn't something you adhere to. So to utilize infant Baptism in the historical sense, you can't conveniently divorce it from that doctrine that it is tied to. I often wonder how much my Presby brethren understand on the Baptists stance, I know that most of my Baptist brethren have libraries of varying sizes that include a healthy amount of Presby and Dutch Reformed theological works and other volumes by them. Most of my Library consists of Presby literature. So it always makes me wonder why our position gets misconstrued, or gets lumped in with those who we have no connection with, despite sharing some distinctives. Also, I love Spurgeon, and think his Landmarkism view was a novelty that some Baptists have unfortunately fancied themselves with. I'll never understand that idea tbh.

I think I'm starting to understand infant baptism a little better now. If I were to summarise, would it be accurate to say that baptism has an initiatory role and a teaching role? The initiatory would be that the person baptised is a member of the _visible_ church, and the teaching role is that it teaches visibly the gospel of grace, while not actually stating anything definitive about the state of the person's soul? The reason I highlighted 'visible' is that I think I need to make a distinction between the visible church and the Israel of God. The reason I ask this is that I do find the baptist argument about the nature of the New Covenant persuasive, when it comes to Hebrews 8 and Jeremiah 31 in that the New Covenant made with Judah will be salvific. I also see the thrust of the argument when Jesus quotes from the same prophecy in John 6 when speaking of the elect. However, if your assertion is that not all New Testament Israel (which the church has been grafted into) are actually the Israel of God (Galatians 5, I think is the reference), then I can definitely reconcile the new covenant, election unto salvation and the baptism of infants, provided that we don't make the presumption that the children of believers are regenerated by virtue of being born to believers. Therefore, I can see that baptism doesn't necessarily initiate a person into the New Covenant, but into the visible Church, where God has made His New Covenant, the church consisting of regenerate and unregenerate members which have all received the sign which points toward the saviour rather than to the heart of the individual. I'm very happy to hear more clarification on this issue, and thank you again for all your effort
@ancientpathstv
@ancientpathstv 27 күн бұрын
You're on the right track. Advocates of presumptive regeneration and Credobaptists both look to an act of man to define the invisible church here and now. Not only is that presumptuous, but they lose the tension between the visible and invisible church. We should recognize that are children are holy (1 Corinthians 7:14), but so was Israel in the Old Testament. Hebrews makes clear that the church today has yet to enter the Promised Land. We have a far greater revelation than Israel did in the OT, but that only compounds our guilt if we fail, as they did (Hebrews 10).
@HartyBiker
@HartyBiker 27 күн бұрын
@ancientpathstv ok thank you. Perhaps a big part of my problem is that, as I said in other comments, I'm from a church tradition which formally rejected presumptive regeneration, but informally often defaults back to it. There's been much confusion on what baptism actually is in my church, and the best I ever got in the past was to point to household baptisms and assert that there must have been a baby there, so this is a breath of fresh air in terms of discussing what baptism actually is and does at a more fundamental level.
