Hope you are ok after that crash. So a guy who'd been in the Giro was there, eh? Reminds me of doing the Coconut Grove pro 1,2 crit in Miami back in the early 2000s. Some of the other guys in that particular race: George Hincapie, Floyd Landis, Tyler Hamilton, and I believe a few other big names I can't recall all these years later. I ALMOST won a prime in that race. The pack slowed down as we were coming to the start/finish line, so I just decided to attack for the hell of it, and the bell was rung for a prime. I had a pretty good gap before anyone else responded, but I started to run out of gas on a small uphill before the finishing straight, and a 4 man chase group caught and passed me shortly before the line. Grrrrrr. Still, it was one of the highlights of my racing career to get a chance to race agaisnt those guys.

The commenters actually said that a spectator's arm hit the guy in front of Justin causing the crash. Apparently Justin suffered a huge deep cut on his arm requiring serious medical attention.

I’m seeing in your videos that modern “fat” (28-32mm) lower pressure tires seem to glide over uneven transitions in pavement so much better than the 19-21 mm tubulars of old pumped to 150 psi would. Of course riders on those would have just ridden around the rougher stuff than risk loss of traction bouncing over it (at least me).
@rider653 күн бұрын
Wider IS faster in and on real world roads. 👍 Vibrations, oscillations, hysterises, & muscle fatigue losses are never accounted for in LAB tested tires... Wider tires/lower pressure offer improved stability, cornering, braking & less muscle fatigue. With zero loss in rolling resistance. FACT. #JanHeine #ReneHerse Research

I'm a bad person, I love the crashes. Years ago, horrible crashes in four straight races. I figured maybe my time was due, so I stopped doing crits. Only the 1,2,3 race, not your level. So sketch decades later. The only thing that changes is the price of the crash replacement. Keep racing, you are fast.
@davidtran94103 күн бұрын
Crazy race! Any chance you can up the gain on your audio for the next videos? I'm maxing out my volume to hear you; watching another video after yours is basically a jump scare.

Hi Will, you as a top crit racer in USA, i find out you don't seem to be bothered too much by your equipment; i do structured training fairly consistent, but i often find myself wanting the latest, newest equipment even though i already have a few of them like cervelo r5, Time Scylon equipped with 9270 di2. But still want to get bike like sl8/pinarello f etc, why don't you want to chase them on your mind i wondered?
@williamrhardin7 күн бұрын
For crits, I usually find that positioning, tactics, and training matter a lot more for my race performances than having the most aero or lightest bike, so I tend to subscribe to having the best bike you can afford to crash, and using the rest of the money/time to get to more races! Although nice bikes are very cool...
@J.P.1.7 күн бұрын
@williamrhardin I feel like the grail bikes are great for group rides but you only race what you can afford to lose, which isn't going to be a 15k pino

Hey Will I have question about your bike. With the all the videos you've done with other KZfaqrs and being on various pro teams, are you simply electing to not have a "modern" bike for races? Or is your new bike currently in the mail lol? I know that Argon18 was a team issued-bike, but I'm just surprised not even brands like Winspace, Tavelo, or Winspace have reached out. I'm gonna flamed for that modern bike comment...
@williamrhardin17 күн бұрын
Ha! Was working with winspace, but they haven't responded to emails lately...my local shop bought me a frameset, and I put my parts on, so I'm back on a good bike! Echelon never gave bikes, the Argons were the teams. The bike industry's a bit tough!
