Does anyone know if doing an oil change yourself voids the manufacturer warranty? I'm sure they dig to find any reason not to honor the warranty if you run into an engine issue and if they see missed oil changes (since there would be no official record) they would quickly say nope?

It's an 84. Mine turned out to be an 84 also but I was able to get it off with a pair of channel locks medium size. But then I ended up ordering my 84 mm from Amazon so I have it for next time

Austin, You might want to check out the likely company that actually makes the Mobile 1 synthetic oil. It is Warren Petroleum or Warren Industries which also makes the Walmart Super Tech that is virtually identical to the Mobile 1 but at about half the price. Check it out and some reading and save yourself some $$.

21:00 A note about the fantastic fan, the remote control units are not able to open the lid part way. So with the remote, the lid is either all the way up or all the way down. I think there is an option to manually turn a knob, but the one I installed was too far for me to reach. Your choice of a manual one was good for your application.

Not much different than my Toyota, which uses a 14mm socket. Thanks for transferring the old oil onto the new oil filter lol. I'm sorry but I"m not using rags to clean the oil pan and such, I use the blue paper towels and put it all in an heb bag. Also it's easier using a tarp on the ground because I can use a blue paper towel to clean the tarp and reuse the tarp. It's nice the process is just about the same.

Personally I'd apply a ton more silicone around the frame on top to make sure no moisture gets in.

Question? I've noticed Mercedes changed their “Legal Notice” on their website pertaining to their factory recommended MB229.52 oil. The website now says; “The information provided and the statements made on these pages do not constitute any representation or warranty, either express or implied. In particular such information is not an implied promise or guarantee in respect of quality, marketability, fitness for any particular purpose. Mercedes-Benz AG will not participate in a dispute settlement proceeding in front of a consumer arbitration board according to the German Consumer Dispute Resolution Act.” It sounds like Mercedes doesn't really stand behind their "recommended" BlueTec oil. I thought Mercedes oil was supposed to be synthetic oil. Prior to Mercedes BlueTec diesel AEM recall, the oil bottle said it was "synthetic oil". Now there's no mention of "synthetic oil". What happened? Is it or isn't it synthetic? If it is, why did Mercedes stop saying it was? Many people say Mobil One makes the oil for Mercedes. I asked ExxonMobil if Mobil One 5W/30 ESP was synthetic oil, and they said that was "proprietary" information. Not much of an endorsement. I also asked if the oil has the API diesel approval? ExxonMobil said it was their opinion that Mobil One 5w/30 ESP would meet the API SM & SN approval. API SM & SN are the approvals for gas engines. API CK-4 is the correct approval for Euro 5 & 6 emissions systems. I've also read that the ACEA European oil approvals are actually owned and administer by the European auto manufactures. The ACEA approvals appear to have a significant conflict of interest. The API is the only independent oil approval process. If you read the Safety Data Sheet Mercedes publishes for OSHA compliance, Mercedes says their MB229.52 & MB229.51 oil is "highly refined Mineral oil". This is NOT synthetic oil. In fact, "highly refined Mineral oil" is the lowest quality possible in the API oil categories. Mercedes MB229.52 oil only meets the MINIMUM requirement the EPA sets for the 'NOACK Volatility' high temperature stability requirement. Isn't high NOACK Volatility what clogs the EGR valve and the Charge Air systems with oil sludge? Mercedes says "B20 biodiesel may cause sever engine damage". Mercedes also says they will NOT warranty engine damaged caused by B20 biodiesel. You didn't say if the MB229.52 oil is approved for B20 biodiesel? Can I use Mercedes MB229.52 oil with B20 biodiesel? Can you explain the engine damage, and precisely what causes the engine damage? I've read that Mercedes method of "Post Injection" is what causes the damage. Can you explain Post Injection and how Mercedes method is different from other diesel manufactures? Why can domestic Diesel engines use B20 biodiesel with no harm, and B20 causes "sever engine damage" in a Mercedes BlueTec diesel? How does this happen? The BlueTec Owner's Manual warns that the oil level may increase above the maximum level. How does the oil level go up? On a different page, the Owner's Manual says that it's acceptable for the engine to consume a quart of oil every 630 miles. How can this be normal? What causes the oil level in some BlueTec diesels to go up, and another BlueTec drops a quart every 630 miles? I don't understand? After I got the AEM recall, Mercedes sent me a letter saying I could extend my oil changes to 20,000 miles. Can you explain what Mercedes did to the engine that makes it go twice as far on oil changes? I've also noticed my DPF is now regenerating every 200 miles instead of 400 miles that it was going. How is that better for the engine? I thought the Turbo was exhaust driven. If the DPF is regenerating twice as often, that means the Turbo must be running much hotter. How does that let the oil last twice as long? 20,000 miles sounds like it's a long way. But, my dealer charges $1,300 for the "A-service" oil change. I guess that makes 20,000 miles sound more reasonable. Please tell me if any of this is wrong? I'm having trouble understanding how MB229.52 is the right oil for my BlueTec diesel? Mercedes legal and warranty statements contradicts their advertising. You also say the MB229.51 wasn't cutting it for the emissions. What happened? Mercedes says MB229.52 is the same as MB229.51, except better fuel economy. I'm very confused?

Hi. Thank you for the video and good luck moving forward with your plans for the future. I have a Jeep with the same engine. It is interesting to note that Jeep oil change videos always demand few quarts of oil are put in via the oil filter housing. This is to prevent alleged oil starvation of the crank bearings on start up. Mercedes videos never mention this.

A Word of WARNING! When reinstalling the the filter element and screwing down the cap - MAKE SURE THAT THE O-RING SEATED PROPERLY. I failed to do that and lost about 3 qts in about 30 seconds as the pressure splattered all over the engine and frame pushed out by the engine pressure. When I looked again I saw a portion of the O-ring had gotten caught outside the housing (don't ask me how), WHAT A MESS. Now I have a huge stain on the driveway even after 25lbs of litter. Sucks to be me
