It’s just likely the main studio doesn’t want anything to interfere with AoS 4th edition release BUT… Valrak said the rumor is the next thing for tOW will be chaos warriors. This could mean those he spoke with consider Dwarves as good as released OR that something happened and Specialist Games decided to delay the release of dwarves.

@@TabletopSaga his 40K rumors are usually very reliable and it is obvious he has some contacts inside GW. That said it’s likely his source meant CW are next because dwarves have been announced already. Part of me hopes Specialist Games realized how badly balanced dwarves are in FoF and decided to rewrite the Arcane Journal though! 😅

Well, we all have been waiting uncountable years for Warhammer Fantasy to return. I think we all will survive a ridiculously few months to get our beloved stuff. I'm playing Chaos all my life. Can you imagine the degree of my worries about how long I will have to wait until I get new armybooks or one at all for my Daemons? Be steadfast, Brothers and Sisters! XD

Well actually yes…because my favourite army is chaos 😂 (keep watching the channel 👀). I love the dwarfs but chaos was my first army. And you are right. We have waited years. I just hope our patience isnt taken advantage of!

If AoS 3 in 2021 was any indication, GW will vastly overproduce Skavenblight boxes and they'll sit on shelves for years, gathering dust and getting marked down for sale.

@@TabletopSaga Sure, AoS was a disaster when it launched, but I commend GW on doing a No Man's Sky and turning it into a real game. I think GW got really burned on Indomitus in 2020 and are determined never to have that happen again! Thus, overproducing launch boxes.

I wouldn’t dabbling in AoS one day. I have some of the fish people because I loved the models (though I confess I haven’t done anything with them yet!) but I much prefer my old world 😎

Wtf are you guys getting on about? You can use the dwarf models from age of Sigmar in the old world. I understand wanting rules but I saw Mordian Glory playing his dwarfs in an Old World Game..... Also most dwarf players still have the dwarf models from the original version. Didn't you save yours? Geezus..... What is wrong with you people?

Good for Mordian glory. I don’t know when you last looked but you can’t get your core dwarf warriors on the GW web page, and the other units cycle through in terms of availability. So it’s not doable in terms of a proper old world force in my view. And as for not still having old miniatures two things - what about people who didn’t have dwarfs but want them now? I used to have a small dwarf force but couldn’t afford them as I was too young (we are talking 2004 and 2005 here) and would love to put that right now I’m an adult. And secondly that’s just intrinsically a bonkers argument isn’t it? 😂

none of the artillery is available, same for basic dwarf warrior, thunderers and quarrelers. I am a new player who never got an army before so i just have the longbeard and ironbreakers

I agree the highland miniatures dwarfs are lovely. But they aren’t the dwarfs I used to covet and love as a teen! It’s the nostalgia hit that really does it for me so unfortunately no 3d print will be good enough. That possibly sounds churlish, but really after an announcement in March I thought I’d be able to get some now 😂

Yeah I guess its annoying and a bit shit of them, but I'm just so stoked the old world is back. I've been playing a lot and having the best time! Also, there's so many on par if not superior 3d printing options out there atm especially for dwarfs. Just get some of them and get on the tabletop. We have the dwarfs rules and all the other rules for that matter. Stop torturing yourself by waiting and complaining!

Imo the 30k assault marines took so long to release because they wanted to release the primaris assault intercessors first. For Tow it is the same. They want to release the new AoS edition first.

I think you also take into account that the AoS design team never wanted Old World to come out. So they might be throwing a wrench in this. Why wouldn't they release the Dwarfs in June? Why are there even Legacy armies?

It’s possible! I do recall hearing a lot of rumours around release pertaining to rivalry between the teams. How silly if that’s true 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@TabletopSaga yeah, it's possibly a fight for limited resources. I don't think GW thought that Old World would do as well as it has. And that probably worries certain people within the company. All the Legacy armies are armies that have been redone in AoS. I'm enjoying putting the AoS Lizardmen and Vampire Counts on square bases. I'm sure that doesn't sit well with some.

I think you do you mate! I’ve seen lumineth used as high elves and they look awesome. And I think it’s probably true that the success of old world has taken GW by surprise. And in really excited by that - while it means we aren’t getting our stuff in the short term I can console myself that in the long run it’s great for the game!

@@TabletopSaga ultimately imo it's one of GW's best games. I've been playing since 3rd and I'm super happy to just have it back. A few things I wanted to mention are that if you check Best Coast Pairings, the tournament scene is healthy, and getting bigger and bigger. The FLG group in the US is hosting Old World in more and more of their events, including the Las Vegas Open. Zac Addington who runs the London GT is going to have the largest Old World event there to date. So where as GW might have to come to terms with Old Worlds success, the community is already healthy and thriving. I also wanted to mention that I work with a local game store to host events and we are doing an escalation league and thanks to one of your previous videos, we are going to be playing Border Patrol. Oh does it bring back great memories of 6th edition! Thank you! Please keep the videos coming!

The people who really wanted to play TOW fall into three basic categories. First, people who still had their old armies and didn’t need to buy anything. Second, people who have found work arounds. Either buying second hand off eBay or going to third party creators. And third, sadly, the ones who have just given up and moved on. I can’t imagine that anyone who was really motivated to give TOW a try hasn’t, by hook or crook, already cobbled together the army they wanted. So, when the Dwarfs finally release, who’s going to still need to buy their army? I mean, people are playing Skaven and Lizardmen in Indy tournaments and those armies are apparently never going to be officially released for Old World. I’m sitting here painting AoS Dispossessed Irondrakes and Hammerers. So... I won’t be buying those units if they release something different for Old World. (Unless the new sculpts are just amazing) This whole situation makes little or no sense, that I can see.

I can’t disagree with anything you say. I myself am running a game of old world at an event in October, and I held off buying anything in the hope that I would be able to buy new. Given the circumstances I’ve been forced to head to eBay and see what I can find. Not ideal!

What I'm finding is that the older players are helping the newer players get models to a point. Also lots of the 3d printing is just placeholders until the GW plastics are released. The secondary market requires a bit too much money. I think the more we have released, the more players will come to the table. We are already starting to have larger RTTs and GTs for it in my state.

Yep. Radio silence - I would actually be totally fine with it if they just told us what was going on! I don’t expect old world to be pushed hard (as I say in the video) but knowing where we stand would be good

ditto on the "balance patches are bad" position. IMO that constant tweaking is more about driving sales than balance(that's certainly what constant "balancing" is about in competitive video games, which is where I think GW is really looking for inspiration these days), and it seriously undermines the tactical(and, as you say, RP) elements of the game.

Yes! I couldn’t agree more. The fact old world is not a ‘main’ game means it’s not expected to make oodles of cash like 40k and AoS, hence the lack of tinkering. Blissful 😁

@@TabletopSaga I'd rather have all the factions that werent included, than Border Princes, Kislev, Estalia and so on rather than Cathay, but I think it's a good call to have limited factions overall, limit the bloat, better balance, more releases for everyone instead of slow drips and so on

Some of these rules doesnt make sence especially the Bretonnian and TK restrictions. Why can TK have more then one chariot and why is the liche priest allowed to cost 165 Points. The Bretonnian BSB restriction is also nonsense because you can only have one hero which can't be a BSB anyways.

As I say in the video I just lifted these from an old white dwarf. One day if I get enough time I’ll play test changes to make them old world specific, but the idea is that people take these as a framework for smaller games. Feel free to make amendments as you see fit 👍🏼

Haha possibly! I think the crucial difference is that warhammer as a main system wasn’t selling enough. As a specialist game it doesn’t need to sell as much, so can make the profit they wanted for it much more easily. Which as I’ve said before I consider to be a good thing! Age of Sigmar is in its fourth edition already - I’ll be much happier if old world remains a nice settled game for a fair few years 👍🏼

Warhammer siege was great! That would be something they could easily bring back 😁 As for Dogs of War we agree, and in an earlier video (the very first tabletop saga video if I recall correctly!) we talk about using Universal Special Rules to recreate them 😁

@@TabletopSaga you see my army is a barrak Varr dwarf army, the purple siler dwarves in the lore, and in the lore they have a massive use of mercenaries in their armies so that would be brilliant for the lore of my army.

we know they arnt going to do the old races BUT we might get some of the old ones back, fishmen, fimir, sea elves, nippon, cathay kislev, biorder princes estilia tilia araby things like that and keep the legends legends as trhey are in AOS

@TabletopSaga I think they will as you say this game is marketed on and for nostalgia and the people playing it are now older gamers Most the gamer si played against when I played this are now dead. 40k was always the younger people. But I am and was an old soul. I could see them doing something similar I'd like to see gnomes back too lol not just in bloodbowl

This may be a win for GW, but for how long? They have major stock shortages forcing people to shop Ebay and Etsy. Speaking of Etsy - a lot of sculpts for sale there is better detailed and cheaper than GW sculpts - which will be another hurtle that GW will have to face.

The stock shortages are damning. I won’t disagree. I wonder the extent to which they will affect GW though. EBay prices are outrageous and many people still like to have the ‘official’ games workshop minis, so I think many will hold on. It’s a poor state of affairs however, and is certainly hurting old world players

@@TabletopSaga yes, eBay prices are insane for Warhammer items. But Etsy is fine, for me, I have built a Wood Elf army and filled my Brettonian army with stuff that did not come in the starter box. The scale and detail does not detract and mixes well together with GW miniatures. Plus it is way cheaper, for now.

I think alternative sculpts are becoming more popular but I do wonder how many people want only the GW minis these days? I still think it’s a lot. But if you are happy with alternatives then more power to you! It’s certainly a more cost effective way of doubt it 👍🏼

I think the fact that the scope has changed means that we could very well receive some continued support by way of a balance patch. If they can do it for 40K they can do it for other games. Will we see it soon, probably not, it's likely all they can do to get the product out the door. They need to follow that money and I don't blame them. Balance isn't affecting their potential profits. Their inability to bring product online quick enough is. The longer they take, more people are will come online with 3D printing eating into their potential market share. They definitely underestimated the demand. Once all the primary factions and models are released then perhaps we'll see something like a balance update. If it is to come I wouldn't expect it for a couple years.

It could even be the case by then that instead of a balance patch it’s v2! That’s a good way of doing a new edition in my opinion. Not a root and branch reform, just a gentle evolution to fix the less than optimal in the edition before 😁

Those were the days! Those metal beastmen are classics. I’m so glad games workshop are now officially supporting a ruleset that lets us dig them all out again 😁
