I love the passion projects you mentioned. Do you have another video on them?
@Townsendhouse115 сағат бұрын
Yes! I do have some videos talking about that! This is an older one, but kind of goes through my entire process of figuring out how to manage passion projects and find resources - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a8lkY8Kh36y9mKs.htmlsi=Evo2HdbgzS5hexfP This is when I was planning out last year - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p6eZf8p01p-cdmg.htmlsi=wQ5eNi4sFyHX3hLl&t=580 And then this is my current "how I structure our homeschool year" video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j8BjqcmhrNqumY0.html All three kind of go together. Now, we have a different flow to our weeks. We take one day each week as a passion project focused day. My older kids still do their math and english, but then have the rest of the day to focus on their passion project. Then during our week off they use that time to focus on their passion projects as well. If you have questions, just let me know, or you can email me - [email protected] 😊

I love your perspective on all this. I think I’ve started doing something similar to this as my children are moving into high school. I usually have several courses to draw from, so I’m giving more personal choice for the books they read.
@Townsendhouse115 сағат бұрын
When you have so many resources available, it is a bit easier to let them pick and choose. My kids love reading, so I am pretty open to their opinions on book choices. Plus, I feel like I read some books in high school that I did not enjoy at all, but actually love now, so I keep that in mind when I am planning things out as well.

Staples spiral bound our HBL B & C but I went to to them for D and they don’t do it anymore:( it was a game changer having the guides spiral bound the binder was one and done our first year using Sonlight. Now I’m stuck. Which HBL would you recommend for an 8th grader that’s done mostly world history family style and is ready to go it alone for American History moving forward?
@Built_Resilient3 күн бұрын
Thank you for your video! I am doing Dart with my daughter for the first time. She is absolutely loving it…I think Brave Writer is right up her alley as far as learning she loves. We are a Sonlight family so it’s so encouraging to know that you continue to incorporate Brave Writer with Sonlight as your kids get older. Maybe you already have videos on this, but as your kids get older are they more independent with Brave Writer or is it something you still need to do alongside them? Also, is the partnership writing needed to go along with Dart?
@Townsendhouse13 күн бұрын
No, Brave Writer has always been pretty parent-intensive for me. But, I really enjoy the conversations so that is nice. We did not do partnership writing with the Dart. They have adjusted the age ranges from when I first used the writing programs, and I believe they have updated the programs as well. We used partnership writing with my 5th/6th graders, and then what used to be called faltering ownership with 7th/8th. Then help for high school was freshman/sophomore year as needed. I always look at the Sonlight writing projects and see which ones I like, and which ones I want to drop, and then I will fill in with Brave Writer resources. As we have gotten to the high school years, my kids have done significantly less with Brave Writer because the high school english courses from Sonlight are so robust, and they have other creative writing projects they want to spend time on.

@@Townsendhouse1 To be honest, it took me about three different tries to read the book. You can fix the calendar page. Use white glue that dries clear, a toothpick, wax paper, and something to weight it down. Put a thin layer of glue on the edges of the rip, place on wax paper, be sure everything is lined up, no wrinkles, place more wax paper on top. Finally place weighted object on top and let dry a day or so.

My girls are going to 8th grade but I love looking at HS curriculum picks to help alleviate the pressure I feel to try to squeeze so much into middle school. For instance I’d planned to do the fallacy detective and whatever happened to Penny candy (2nd attempt) for 8th grade. Now I know I can hold off because I definitely want them to use GH Government in HS. Seems heavy so may even save that one for 10th grade. Thanks for sharing!

I have definitely planned some books too early in the past and end up pushing off to later! I actually found that we had done most of the Guest Hollow Chemistry in the Kitchen books when we did Sonlight level J a few years ago, and wished I had been able to save some of them for that course when I realized they were used. We may end up going that route for my youngest who is only going into 4th grade - plenty of time to make changes 🤣

I'm going to start using daily duo in July, and I'm so antsy- I've been making my own versions in a bullet journal which is so tedious. When I wrote out the times for the first 3 days, I accidentally numbered 6 to 18 instead of starting over at 1:00 p.m. 🤦🏻♀️ I'm even more excited to start in January 2025 with the new version! I bought the second half used pretty cheaply from someone but it's the older version.

I have done that before as well! Just keep counting up and then having to white out and re-label, or pretending I am using military time 🤦🏼♀️ I'm excited to start my new DD in July as well - have to figure out what I want to use all the lined pages for! There is so much space!

I had shingles for the first time last year.. It started the day we left for vacation and I had no idea what it was for 4 or 5 days and then we weren't home for another 5 days after that. . Thankfully I have some friends that you know some homeopathy and other natural care So I was able to start treating right away without having to go to the doctor. By the time I was able to get in, it was already So much better! It was during a time of a lot of stress- probably from planning the vacation and getting it executed, but also my immune system was really worn down. I had strep throat A couple of weeks after I got home and then I had it 3 months before. I hope that you're on the mend now! I was hoping you had the tab clubs and teams sheets in your planner. I was curious how you would use them. I was either thinking of one for each curriculum we were using and take notes about how they were going or using them for co-ops and extracurriculars.
@Townsendhouse1Ай бұрын
I think that if I had those pages I would use them as passion project planning/recording space. I would probably white out or washi over some of the text that is laid out and relabel. Overall, I think they would be really good for project planning and record-keeping. Although, there are so many extra notes pages in this planner, I wouldn't need so many extra pages. But, yes, I think that is what I would use them for 😊

Hey! It was good to hear this chat! And while my daughter is only in eighth grade at the moment, she would 100% agree about being burnt out on computer courses. My intent was never to start online learning, but when it came to Spanish and science, I wanted to do it that way, to ensure that she got the best teachers available. We did BJU for both, and we did Shormann for math. between those three subjects, she has been slowly dying on me over the past two years. Lol. The thing is, she’s super loves science, and I agree that BJU is great for science. Because there are 180 lessons, and because we are caught in the trap of doing things outside the house during the school day, also, we struggle to fit it all in. as of the moment, I have shifted her lessons with BJU, and her end date is in the future, lol. I am very sad about that. She also hasn’t gotten into the fun labs for biology, yet, but I know she will be excited when she gets to those over the summer. We are also not really year-round homeschoolers, which makes it hard. For next year, she is wanting to move back to Saxon math and wants to somehow switch up science. I am still not sure what to do, as I’d love for her to do Chemistry at our co-op, but it may not work with her dance schedule. She would just thrive with other students in an actual class, but she may have to take one for the team, aha!! I am glad you overall had a good year and are so great about reflecting!!!
@Townsendhouse1Ай бұрын
I love that there are so many options available, but my oldest said "I'm so excited to be done with computer based work this year!" I know that everyone is moving into this online world, but sometimes the books and notebooks and pretty pens are what we really need in our lives 🤣 I have a whole video on all the different curriculum & resources I considered for Chemistry if you are interested in that - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jOCqfcd62brFfWg.html

@@Townsendhouse1 i think i did see that, but i had considered watching again! LOL. and for real. i am not a big on-line person for school work, but it sure was going to be a good plan to use shormann and then BJU for science. i'm not super jazzed about the idea of being fully responsible for correcting her Berean Builders science next year, aha!

I’d love to hear more about his passion projects and aspects like what courses he’s done with skill share, etc.
@Townsendhouse1Ай бұрын
I will have to ask him on specifics, but he typically enjoys going into skillshare looking for specific things he needs help with in Blender. He also enjoyed going through several of the unreal engine 5 classes. He is an experimenter though, so he doesn't necessarily do every class, he learns something and then tries it and then tries to experiment with what he learned. Some of his focuses this year - easily move and model objects in Blender, animate using keyframes, voice acting, matching sounds with mouth movements in animation, and editing through adobe premiere pro. It has been a fun year of work for him! His 2 big projects are creating an animated minecraft series and then creating games in Roblox Studio.
