Thank you for this video. My ioniq from 2018 with 33.000 km had exactly the same problem. My dealer says it will cost €3300 to fix because the part is so expensive. When I listen to your video I hear a different amount. Is it true that the sensor is €3300?

What are your thoughts on jacking up the whole side of the car using a single jacking point? E.g to swap wheels front to back etc. I know the chassis is stiff enough to be able to do it, but is it harmful to the battery at all?

This video is totally uneducated. Lithium in batteries cannot be commercially recycled presently. The requirement on hydrogen tanks in the USA is that they cannot leak anything for 30 years. "Difficult" doesn't mean anything. Cost of design and manufacturing means something real. Batteries are not green and won't be any time some. Meanwhile here in California, I've been driving on 100% green hydrogen for 3 years.

Another super comprehensive video Matt, well done! I've seen mid-80's kW regen when decelerating at level 3 from motorway speeds on long downhill off-ramps; I think it would make sense if the motor were to be able to regenerate an amount near or equal to its rated power output.

My 2020 ionic limited just popped this code. I'll be bringing it in today to have the job performed. I obviously panicked at first as I was 120 miles from home when it showed, but your video, combined with a diagnostic run clip showing this issue does not cause battery overheating, I was confident to drive it home. Charges fine, drives fine, discharge/recharge rates unchanged. Just this stupid annoying warning notification that you can't clear from the wonderful display these vehicles have. I absolutely love the car and I hope this issue doesn't force me to make the decision to trade it in.

Ioniq is legend, both Classic and Facelift are phantastic cars, incredibly efficient, extremely good driving impression for this price, can't get better than this, it's a shame that they do not produce it anymore, newer EVs are having a tendency to going backwards sadly. Too high consumption in new cars, and too much useless expensive stuff, too high, like insane cameras instead of mirros that have spare part prices where you would go crazy if you have some damage and need repairs. If you have a Ioniq, do not give it away, you will regret it!

Do you think there' s anywhere underneath the Ioniq to mount a dieselheater to warm up the cabin. I live I Sweden and the battery suffers both from lover efficiency for the tracksion and from warming the cabin up in hard winter conditions. A dieselheater to warm up the cabin would help in those conditions. For one hour drive (ca 60 miles) the fuel consumption would be around 0,2 liter. That's very low compared to ICE.

Another great video. I actually bought a 38kw Ioniq after watching your videos and I LOVE it. It's interesting, only this last week I've noticed it adds range v slowly on that top right 0.5mile bar graph, so it is still regen-ing when you have 0 on the regen. However if you long pull the right flap to manually take it off, you do feel every so slightly that the regen is fully off. It's ever so slight ineach mode, even though they both say 0

Is using cruise control massibely less efficient than this? I do tend to use it a fair but, but when not using, I will adapt this method of setting regen to 3 and using accelerator. For some reason I was thinking this might cause extra wear on the motor. I don't know why I thought that!
@GoGreenAutos

The only moving/wearing parts in the motor are the bearings. They're spinning all the time regardless of what the motor is doing. I've always find I can drive far more efficiently than the cruise control. I almost never use it.

Many thanks. I have one concern regarding EV gearbox design. I live in Canberra and when I go Batemans Bay on the way back from the ocean we have a very long a steep road. When I drive uphill on my Kia Sorento 2009 Diesel I suspect my gearbox gets hot and the electronics drops down the speed to 20-30km/h and I can't drive any faster for the last 0.5-1km. My question is that I feel that 1 speed gearbox will be a very bad if you have prolonged uphill roads especially if you have high load or towing something. The motor will have to pull hard on low rpms instead of having a decent reduction like 30x1 instead of what you were saying 7.4:1. Is my understanding correct?
@GoGreenAutos
@GoGreenAutos 4 күн бұрын
I can't see why that would have any effect on an EV gearbox. As you can see, they're a very simple design. The difference here is you're assuming combustion engine characteristics, which are completely different in an EV. A combustion engine requires gears as the engine as a narrow power band, whereas electric motors don't have all the torque from zero rpm.

Two things, using the left paddle to come to a complete stop, hold the paddle toward the steering wheel for Max regen and complete stop. Have you noticed regen is only about 50% efficient compared to use climbing the same hill. Tested in my ionic 38 Kw in Australian.

Is there a way with the Ioniq, or EVs in general, to force the car to use the friction brakes? Just thinking that giving them a decent workout from time to time would stop them rusting or siezing up, as I understand can happen with EVs
@pavelblaha5243
@pavelblaha5243 4 күн бұрын
When braking in neutral, friction brakes are used instead of regenerative braking.
@GoGreenAutos
@GoGreenAutos 4 күн бұрын
Yes just press the brake pedal. But yes you're right, using the occasionally will help to stop them seizing. Just braking hard at a fast speed does the job and that will also clean up the pads and disc surface too. But when an EV is fully charged, the regen if low or even off as there's no where for the energy to go (as the battery is already full), so you'll be using the brakes for the first few miles anyway.
@staffordian
@staffordian 4 күн бұрын
@@GoGreenAutos Thanks! I had it in mind that with some or all EVs the brake might be 'fly by wire' so pressing the brake pedal might simply tell the car to slow or stop by blending regen with the friction brakes. Guessing this is untrue and the brake pedal simply operates the friction brakes under the sole control of the driver as is the case with ICE vehicles.
@GoGreenAutos
@GoGreenAutos 4 күн бұрын
@@staffordian No, brakes are just hydraulic brakes just like an ICE vehicle. The brakes on a Renault Zoe are a bit different, but all under the bonnet, not at the wheels.

All wheel drive EVs with a motor on both axles have greater regeneration of course. But you can't have one motor driving and one regenerating to create a perpetual motion machine as physics doesn't work like that.
@RandomNoob
@RandomNoob Күн бұрын
Regen acts like a brake to slow you down it does this because the more load you put on the motor the harder it is to turn, think of it a bit like driving a petrol car with your brakes applied and you will soon fine out your fuel tank empties much faster as the engine has to work harder. The captured energy is always much lower than the extra energy needed to overcome the extra resistance which means you would get less range.
