What's the difference between this and Broken Compass? Why would I choose Outgunned Adventure over Broken Compass Golden Age?

I feel that the artwork in Mothership evokes drawings made by traumatised survivors trying to describe what they encountered.

Great review, thanks for going over it. I really love the charm that Mothership has, and the possibilities that I feel it can offer with being a bit more 'open' in setting. As for the art, The way I pictured it was this: Some of that stuff was hastily drawn by some dude hiding in a locker from the monster that was going to eat him. Haha but it can be jarring at times! All the same, thanks for taking the time to do this review. Really well done!

Check out the Waves Clarity Vx plugin when you get a chance. It can do magic on background noise removal in post.

The mechanics seem way more clunky and unintuitive than the very elegant Alien rules.

Negativity sucking the wind out of one's sails is relatable. I won't go anywhere near the channels that are constantly complaining. Whether they're doing it as clickbait or are genuinely that negative in their outlook, I don't need that energy.

Man I wish there were other smaller conventions like that to go to. I feel like large conventions can be a bit suffocating and are often held far enough away that anyone you connect with there live too far away to continue playing in person with each other...

I was literally thinking about how I haven’t seen any Dungeon Masterpiece content lately … I’m so glad the Fest was a success hopefully that means they’ll do it again so I get a chance to go … great content as usual Dave… I would love to see more interviews with creators like this

I am surprised at the lack of commentary around the web on the fact that enemies have no way to be better at avoiding an attack. It is all based solely on the ability of the attacker. The lack of any social mechanics is also very weird, especially in a game where you need to haggle for job offers, shipment sales, etc.

Probably removed all those features so the game could come out, took them 3 years to finally ship everything so idk why you would expect such simple things like that

the jrpg genre could be excellent to mine for ideas on how to best do theater of the mind ttrpgs because outside of specifically tactical titles, they eschew battlefield maps in favor of lining up

As you kind of address the Netrunner in Cyberpunk and the Decker in Shadowrun has to be streamlined or they end up being a solo mission and hinderance to the gameplay which is why some avoid them like the plague

Funny how 'Trauma Team', even though it was thought of in the 80s, kind of reflects American Health Care today, just dialed to 11 (if you can afford it, your Insurance Provider......or the Megacorp that provides it for you......will send in literal Paramilitary Paramedics to treat you 😂)

I prefer ALIEN for the production values, rule system and the familiar universe. I really like MOTHERSHIP though but found a lot of the stuff released for it to be far too variant in quality, which is why I went with the former. There's also HOSTILE too, which is pretty good. Spoilt for choice, really!

Started playing D&D in 1976...just 2 years after it came out. Played it to somewhere around 1990. I remember the big push to flood the market with products. At the time I had no idea they were in financial trouble. We just assumed they were getting greedy. It was at that point that I decided that that was enough. Haven't touched it since. Still have all the books, character sheets, dice, miniatures.

If you want a similar game to Mothership and Aliens that has a lot info, expansion booklets, but pretty simple rules, I suggest Hostile. It uses the Cepheus System is broad in scope like Mothership. It's comparable to these two games imho.

As far as skill training time, and advancing the time line, I think that works here. You are playing essentially freighter crews, 99% of the time you are going to be making Boredom checks, as you are on the Milk Run from Planet Middle of Nowhere, to the Planet Farthest From with nothing happening. This game is, from what I see, designed to run those rare dangerous situations that the crew might find themselves once or twice a year (hopefully...Man, the bonus just isn't enough sometimes Hey! Why don't you freeze him?.)

I can't stand games like this that leave so much vague or unfinished, when I do sci-fi I want detail, I don't care if its made up, just give it a reason for working. I made up an Aliens game years ago using the Palladium Books system and it works great because of all the detail. I don't want to have to make up or modify a game every time I get a new game, I want the work done for me.

Don't knock staple binding. It lasts forever. Square bound glue binding can crack and pages loosen over time but staples can last indefinitely.

Of note, the paid versions of Stars Without Number, Worlds Without Number, and Cities Without Number also have supplements to add in content from the other games and convert to. So, with one of the paid versions, you get the tools to combine all of them.

I took the foundational rules of 5e, which I think are quite good, and "OSR-ified" them into my own game, which I now call DarkenDeep (still abbreviated to DnD). Currently playtesting and I've gotten good feedback.
