Super cool! I loved the explanation of the Jaw Harp, and the rendition of Turkey In The Straw was fun with audience participation!

First, it's sits against your teeth, you don't bite it. Second, pull the striker IN so it springs OUT. Pulling it out makes it snap back... Third, practice

"Jaw" Harp is only for people who are total PC wusses about what it's real name is.
@keithstarnes70096 жыл бұрын
john gury Jaw harp, Jews harp, DOROMB, mouth harp, munnharpe, Khomus, MAUTROMMEL. The name changes with regions and various cultures. There is no one name for the instrument.
@johngury6 жыл бұрын
And "Jaw" Harp is the only one that is the result of politically correct speech.
@keithstarnes70096 жыл бұрын
john gury That simply isn't true. Munnharpe is Norwegian. The NORSK word for mouth is Munn. There fore a Munn harpe is a mouth harp. Munnharpe have very distinctive shape. One way to know a munnharpe from a maultrommel, is the housing over where the Reed is. A Khomus is made by Yakut tribal people in central Siberia. A Khomus is distinguished from a munnharpe. Because of their shamanic origin and mystical origin the Orthodox Kabbalists Jews brought them. Because Judaism is a mystical tradition. Where I come from, we call a spade a spade.
@keithstarnes70096 жыл бұрын
john gury Now a story I've heard, which may be not so trust worthy, is that Jews DID use the harps whilst strolling carts through town with items for sale and the harp was played. Being it was exotic and Jews were seen with them, it became known as a Jews harp. They're also called JUICE harps due to the slobber they create.
@keithstarnes70096 жыл бұрын
john gury Why is "jaw" more correct then a mouth? If Jews like being called Jews and Jews played unique harps from everyone else then it was a Jews harp at the time, because you went to a Jew if you wanted one.
