I’ve been homeschooling one of my daughters since she was 3 (almost 5 now) because she sees her bigger sister doing it and wants to. She literally begs to do it ALL the time. I can’t imagine squashing her love of learning because of her age. She’s doing amazing and we follow a formal curriculum. We also don’t do morning basket! Tried and it felt more stressful than anything since it just didn’t fit our morning dynamics.

Hey there! Another GR question for you 😆 did you modify how you read the Teacher’s Guide for your early reader? I have a 4, 6, 9 and 11 year old. I think my older two will love all the history and information. I wasn’t sure if it could be tough to keep my 6 year old’s attention if I read the lesson in entirety. Thank you for your review and sharing your experience!

Thank you for sharing this review! I've seen on your videos how you have since completed more Connecting Continents units and other units as well. I'm shopping the sale again this year and was wondering if this is a unit you would ultimately recommend. My kids 4-12 enjoyed Africa! I see how some units are great for family learning with little ones (such as Oceans, Africa, NAB). I would lose my little ones with Renaissance and Revival and Energy probably.
@PearlsAndOak8 күн бұрын
If they enjoyed Africa, I would definitely recommend A&O! We had so much fun with it!
@laurenc88448 күн бұрын
@@PearlsAndOak Awesome! Thank you :) I saw that they are rewriting some of the Year 1 and Year 2 units so I was debating on waiting for newer versions to come out. But we really loved Africa as is and added in the living books and movies and such. So I think I want to cater to that interest right now and do A&O, Asia, and maybe Europe as well. It's hard to choose haha. Thanks for your feedback :)

I was wondering if the activity book would still work with the older version of all about spelling? 🙂
@PearlsAndOak17 күн бұрын
@@tinakenny.777 Hey there! The new activity book will not pair well with the old teachers guide. However, if you want to include more of the games/color pictures, they have review books in the “optional products” section. Those were created to bridge the gap (so to speak) between the two versions.

I'm watching this 5 minutes after I made a completely unnecessary thriftbooks order 😬. It felt like gluttony. Perhaps I'll set a challenge for myself not to buy anything homeschool related until after Christmas (I don't think I can go a whole year). The Wind in the Willows was a very heavy book for us. Did you get an abridged copy?

I can relate so much! Great job going over a year! I feel like I obsessed so much over scrolling book outlet when I first found it. Since the inventory was constantly changing I was afraid of missing out on the good ones. And made way too many orders to keep up with reading. 😂 I took a good long break too. Although I do find read alouds enjoyable I have found it tricky for my family to stay engaged listening. I found the best way for us was to snuggle and read at bedtime. They are most excited to sit and listen well then. Even if it was a literature book for a subject like history, I usually save it for then!
@PearlsAndOak22 күн бұрын
Yes! I spent so much time just scrolling through the "new" section and anything that looked good, I added to my cart. Now, my purchases will be intentional and thought out (with maybe the occasional "this looks good" 😅), That's a great idea! I'm glad you found something that works best for you and your kiddos!

Bottom line seems to be - "Don't "other-ize" your homeschool." When we stop being pushed about by every fad, and pray and decide what's best for OUR family - it works much better than just trying to obey the masses.

I think that started because public school was pushing for kids to to begin formal, sit down education to younger and younger. Then kids were considered "behind" if they weren't. It was killing the love of learning for a lot of little kids so early on. I have a4.5 year old who was interested in schooling at 2.5. I don't push him Ingri it but he often asks me to do preschool with him because he sees the older kids doing it. I'm in agreement with you that if they are interested then go with it! If not, there is no need to push at that point.

Both of my sons needed that extra year to gain maturity/self-control and starting formal seat lessons at 6 worked well for them. However, my daughter is a very eager learner with emotional maturity, so we’ll be starting her K year right when she turns 5. Blanket generalizations always have exceptions 😉, but in my experience (both at home and teaching Pre-K for years) girls are usually ready for formal lessons at a younger age than boys.
@KatsGrimmАй бұрын
I have never understood the mentality of not homeschooling before 6. Public schools, in my area, want kids pretty much reading when they are coming out of Kindergarden, so usually 6. Then homeschool parents complain that their kids are "behind." It's so frustrating that people can't seem to just trust their own instincts and just follow their child's lead, where it's reading at 5 or at 9.

Every year we weigh the pros and cons and it's so helpful to get others perspective and think about all the factors and reminders of what to think about when making this decision.
