Acedia isnt just not caring, its more like not caring, while at the same time wishing you did care but you cant. You feel completely dead to the core, bored out of your mind, want to be moved, and appreciate all you have, you want to want to go do something but nothing and i mean nothing sounds even remotely appealing, its like a cloud of deadness comes and smothers your soul and all you can seem to do is wait the 4 or 5 hours that seem like 400 years for it to lift off you. Or pray to God to get it off you.

It is so understated how much of human spirit is either built up or torn down by surroundings we live in - its very telling that architects themselves and people of power prefer the old, but always force everyone else to live in the new. Political discourse has to touch upon urbanism and architecture, because inevitably, it is those surroundings that make a place desirable and worth fighting for - no one fights to save a concrete block, but everyone will want to see an old townhouse saved. and it is that discourse that is so antithetical to the left - with visible tradition and history in place, their ideas are refuted and have no purchase when people have roots and commitments to their physical place, as opposed to abstract and fluid ideas.

You are totally right and one thing the movement does now is actively courting local politicians. A win for them as this matter is extremely popular on a local level.

Dante was a non-christian, a heretic. Only those who have not read it have a highly opinion on the Divine Comedy.

Great work. The lack of these perspectives in modern culture and intellectual life is also unfortunately reflected in English translations of works like Dante's Comedy - often missing essential dimensions of allegory, anagogical insights and mysticism. But reading the originals with this in mind, opens up an infinite wealth of beauty and wisdom!

The Aesthetic City released a video recently about the failure of schools of architecture, very much along the lines of these talks. He has a very low opinion of modernist "starchitects." That video also highlights that, thankfully, there are schools for traditional architecture being revived, or classical tracks being reintroduced in some modern schools. To name a few in the States: Notre Dame, The Catholic University of America, Benedictine College, Utah Valley University, University of Miami, and more. I hope it become even more prominent. Traditional architecture needs a renaissance.

Ruben Hanssen does an excellent work and we are witnessing a renesaince of new traditional architecture. But it needs to accelerate even faster. As for now China and India are building massive modernist future slums in the biggest capital destruction in history!

You define the problem nicely, like all the experts, but I hear no practical solutions. We're all clear there's a problem, but how do we solve it? Other than "become your fully realized archetype". HOW?
@PrecaBoy

The problem with archetypes is that you don't have a method. It's all about subconscious. Find your archetype, meditate about the shadow surrounding it. If you haven't yet, you gotta read "King Magician Warrior Lover", that will help🙏

This Christian obsession of having children is strange. It makes sense with God saying be fruitful and multiply. But if the human race goes extinct, what does that matter? Is earth more important than heaven? Why would ushering in the second-coming be a bad thing? It's disheartening to hear that having children is this all-important thing for those of us with genetic disorders that make it ill-advised to have children. Jesus did not have children and neither did Paul. If anything, it is more Christ-like to not marry and not have children. Another point: If we believe in evolution, then we already know that the desire to have children will be biologically and socially selected. So it's suspicious when your values happen to line up with exactly what evolution selects for. We don't need to be fully cynical, but come on. A healthy dose of cynicism is needed to prevent gullibility.

Thank you very much for this talk! We would like to be part of your network - Michael. We are a non-profit community led housebuilder that provides homes at their cost price to qualified first-time buyers in the UK. Unlike other social developers, we want our houses to be not only affordable, but also - beautiful. The construction of classic-style houses does not cost more than “modern” ones.

Van Gogh’s art was very controversial during his time and many critics were appalled by it but now it’s highly praised like what you are doing here. Van Gogh’s work “The Potato Eaters” is considered one of his first masterpieces today but was considered his biggest failure by critics at the time. The reaction you and other traditionalists are having to current art is very comparable to the reaction critics had to Van Gogh’s work in the past. Food for thought.

Unfortunately, most public places play rap music today. It has degraded society beyond belief. I often lament that TVs and music is constantly blaring everywhere. We won’t be taking our kids out very often because there are very few public environments that are conducive to civility. We enjoy time in nature and attending events with genuine culture. We need to bring back culture and high society again. So tired of all the tripe and trash.

I agree with Calvin on everything except his lack of understanding of feminism. Feminism does not say that men and women are the same, far from it. Feminism promotes equality of opportunity, equality of dignity, equality of choice, equality of autonomy. But there is no way we are the same. And sadly, a lot of the extreme trans women stuff is anti women, just another opportunity for certain men to exploit women with permission. It's outrageous.

I have no doubt that the typical contemporary modern architecture are structurally safe (as far as following competent building codes); but modernist architects can't seem to help but make sure their buildings look visually un-safe. Whether it's big hulking masses with a glass base facade or seemingly disjointed elements (ie window placement, panels). It seems like these architects love tormenting the average person that have to use or live in these buildings.

I´m a future student of architecture and engineering, I love the baroque, rococo, renaissance, gothique, neoclassical, art deco style. I detest minimalism and brutalism. I would love to do religious projects, museums, palaces, monuments and other historical buildings. Unfortunately in my country, Spain, there is a lot of bureaucracy in the construction sector and there are hardly any projects like this (maximalist/classical) today.
