When Bruce would pop off that Jack Straw line with gusto and a smile, "Cut down a man in cold blood, Shannon,Might as well be me MEEEEEEEEE"!!!....the place would absolute erupt. Especially with that grand piano getting attacked. Wowwy, I get chills.

yeah yeah yeah... Bruce always kicked their asses....made them wake up. Jerry of course loved it and Bruce's jazz sensibilities ! Bruce really added a lot...and some of his cool songs... I, too, was fortunate enough to be there at that time... and of course Bruce still out there putting on good shows...

the story is told that garcia & hunter knew a woman down the street who had the harry smith anthology .. so they'd wait for he to go to work and then 'break in' just to play the records and learn the tunes .. the only thing they 'stole' was history and frequencies ... minglewood blues was one of those tunes ....

I met Bruce Hornsby 2 times. The 2nd time I met him he actually stole my seat when I went to get a beer at great woods amphitheater further festival tour in 1998. It was in between acts, so when we came back to our seats he was sitting there and we were like whoe! Bruce Hornby stole our seats. So we all sat down and shot the shit with him 😊 I told all about the one specific show when I saw my 1st darkstar tripping balls and he was like " cool man, I'm glad you enjoyed it " super cool dude.

I loved that Bruce was able to back up Vinny when he was up and coming. Unfortunately i think Brent had started to come apart by this time and the Dead were trying to get ahead of the curve and have a backup plan just in case they lost him. I mean from what Parrish, and Billy, Mickey say, Brent was turning into a major basket case. With the divorce, and his manic depressive tendancies, I mean who could blame them. The 1986 Brent Meltdown in Berkeley probably scared the bejesus out of everyone. I mean i am sure it was nice for them to have calable musicians opening for them, and to add new light but it almost seemed like a premonition of what was to come. Glad Bruce is family, miss the heck out of Brent and Vinny. That "Hot Seat" is no joke. Even Dark Star Orchestra's original keyboard player died of a heart attack in 2005 or so. Even the cover bands cant get away from it. Tom Constantan is the only one that has survived the Hot Seat, along with Chimenti(Knock on Wood)....Edited for spelling. The spell correct has a mind of its own now.

Is there some reason you guys don’t play any of the music you’re talking about - eg the intro piece segment or whatever - it is brilliant and changed me - those guitar riffs are spectacular, to bad we never heard them here .

at 0:47 ive never seen anyone do that like that before! Love to watch him play and his interviews! Ballad Of Youth is in my opinion is one of his best ever, even among his Bon Jovi material.

Thank you for streaming! I enjoyed the whole line-up for Friday and look forward to today at work. The camera work and sound was excellent, no lag or distortion (windy beach can wreck havoc on sound). The chat had a friendly banter and lots of help with who's on stage since the earlier acts weren't labeled. There were folks from all over the world watching. Amazed to be able to see Sting for free <3

I saw Branford with Buckshot LeFonque at the Flood Zone in Richmond, a big DMB starting point. And I look to the right, and there's Bruce! He got invited up of course. Great music moment for me. Just a lot of cool things happened when I was at college in Richmond.

I followed them on the summer of '91 tour. Great shows and (different) sets 🙂 a great body of work from Jerry and Bob (IMO), and a great life adventure I still talk about whenever I reminisce. He certainly isn't Brent, but I loved what he added to the mix and the fact he was willing to step into that role and follow such an icon on keys but that's just the way it is... Thanks Bruce!

Love Mr Hornsby, caught him with the Dead, 9/22/91 at Boston Garden, then again at Old Orchard Beach for early Further Festival. Then recently he played about a mile from my house at a little place called Indian Ranch on the MA./CT. Line a few years ago with Los Lobos opening and it was a great show with tons of Dead stuff from both bands. The place is small and I stood right next to Bruce as he waited to take the stage, I wasn't 4' away from him and MAN IS HE TALL!!
