These work by reflecting a beam of light onto a sensor. If the lid is open, the image becomes overexposed, the reflective surface also wouldn't help. Your hand movement was not perfect and would realistically cause the image to come out distorted The most obvious giveaway is that you dont show whats would actually be presented at the edges of the paper. Where is the lid?

I have a canon pixma g600 and you can flush it by opening the software on your PC and- I can't remember exactly- but there's an option called ink flushing that you can press and it will automatically do it
