When you move to the E and the G notes in the last chord, are these notes that appear within the last chord structure? Does it have a name? because I've been hearing this kind of thing in songs where the chord stays the same but the quality changes back and forth
@dr.guyshkolnik_composer

Yes, G is the 1 and E is the 6. Of the G chord. Now, Think of it sang by a vocal group:,the singers are aiming for G and E, but together visit the chromatic lower neighbors D# and F# and then eventually move up to the right notes E and G.

The Em7 adds anticipation vs the Cmaj7/E. But both have the E,G,B so it's a bit of a coin flip. What I like even better is an Em9 or preferably Em9(no 5). That F# adds some emotional complexity and leads into the G in the ensuing Dm9. Yes I know I'm messing with the vibe but I don't want things quite so harmonious.😎

Suspensions were traditionally resolved in a stepwise motion down - in this case the G would resolve to F (9-8 suspention). The traditional 2 suspension is when the dissonance lies in the lowest voice

Hi, Guy. I wouldn't say Dm is the one. If so, the G should be G minor. For me, the key center of the vamp is C major. Dm to G7. I always play around D Dorian there, and sounds OK. They key center of the A section is D major, with those brilliant Jobim twists. Greetings from Argentina!
@dr.guyshkolnik_composer
@dr.guyshkolnik_composer 3 күн бұрын
No, it’s absolutely not C. It’s not a 2-5 progression - It’s basically Dm7-6. Try the same progression Dm9 - G13, but keep D in the bass - and you’ll hear it.

You don’t need to put a mirror on your keyboard as a visual aid to grasping what negative harmony is. There are already two conceptual mirrors sitting on your keyboard. One’s called “D” and the other is called “Ab”. In reality, they’re the SAME “mirror” - which is one of 12 axes along which the octave can be divided symmetrically. But unlike all the other axes, this one divides the octave in such a way that not only IS symmetrical, but LOOKS symmetrical, making it a much more intuitive way for those new to the concept to wrap their heads around it.

Love this but, you’re messin’ with us 😁 …I followed along thru the whole thing several times because your left hand and the red highlight shows you playing B♭ *2* but the *sound* is clearly B♭ *1* This happens on the final F, just before the video loops and it also happens in one of the middle bars I know it’s a test to see if we’re paying attention 😉 Thank You for all this amazing & beautiful content-it is very educational for beginners like me So helpful to *hear* as well as *see* 👍

He did used it often yes! Of course not all the time but he loved to think in terms of one harmony that spreads over multiple chords. Check out his version of 'The Touch of your Lips'

I actually disagree I don’t think that’s why he chose those chords. I think it’s in c Phrygian with the C chord changed to major. Just like they do in pyramid song (which is in F# but uses modal interchange and uses chords from F# minor major and Phrygian). Then EIIRP modulates to F major and uses some more modal interchange. It’s definitely more that C is the key of the song for the verses in my opinion. But of course there’s usually no “right” answer especially for most Radiohead chord progressions. Great video!

Thank you! It’s ultimately about this: which chord is the center of gravity for you? C or F? For me it’s F, for you it’s C. Either way we’re still friends 😉
