looks pretty good and practical for all situations. if you are doin a short ride and want less weight just put less fuel in. this gives you the option of long rides and can rid a guy of range anxiety

Hi John - totally late to this party but getting a tad clenched about my Vortex on my '23 CRF450 RL. Did you ever experience difficult hot starts? Meaning, I'm trail riding, stop the bike, 2 - 5 mins later go to restart and it struggles to start. I live/ride in Western CO and was out solo this past week and thought I was about to be stranded way out in Gunni Nat'l Forest. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. It does this regularly but this past time makes me want to try the GET or a new bike....ugh

The 890 is the perfect bike as far as I’m concerned, but the reliability issues kill it for me. If one of the four Japanese manufacturers simply copied this bike and deleted all the worthless electrical junk (except abs and cruise control). It would completely dominate the market. Or ktm could just learn how to make a reliable motorcycle... But I’m not holding my breath.

Hey John, appreciate all you advice, I purchased the Get from Taco and am having issues with the fan not ever coming on and the motor is running way hot. Have you adjusted the get ecu to help the fan kick in at a lower temp ? If so, what settings did you use?

In my opinion the t7 does not need new suspension for normal adventure riding. Stiffer springs and you are set.

Hey, John! I appreciate the video. I’m two weeks out from getting an Icon Stage 8 with RXT springs. I’ve been racking my brain on setting 2 or 3. I have a Decked System and RSI SmartCap (around 420lbs) of constant load. Weekends I’ll add an additional 100-150 lbs of camping gear. I’m not looking for a super lifted look but more moderate. I also don’t wanna run 285/70/R17’s to fill the lifted space if the option 3 is too big. Biggest tire I’ll entertain is a 275/70/R17 or do like you 265/70/R17. For your overlanding mode you had a roof rack, tent, awning, cap, recovery gear, clothes, ice chest, etc. Would you estimate that weight around 500-550lbs or more maybe? I like the look of your overlanding rear height with option 2 but just wanted to see that weight in comparison to what I’ll have. Thanks again and keep up the good work! Love the videos.

Hey bud- I used a gallon of Honda 10-30 for first few changes like the manual specs I think- But I see many including you using 10-40 for whatever reason. Need to get a fresh gallon for the murderous red bitch so would it be ok to bump up to Honda 10-40 during summer in NH even with all that 91 octane i definitely always get in the oil and considering I don’t need expensive long lasting oil because I am consistently changing every 400 miles or so. @JohnTYoung Really? I tried both keys, charged the battery, connected cables to a cars battery. Nothing worked. I took it to the KTM dealer, and the mechanic connected it to the computer and couldn't reset it. Now, they are going to change the entire lock under warranty. 🤷🏽♂️

Replaced my battery on my 2023 due to turning off on the highway (no power, as if you turned the key off) and my charging voltage finally showed me what was happening. I was getting between 12 and 18.4 volts at 5000 rpm. Seems to have exposed an issue that I'm sure has been present since day 1 with the voltage regulator. Hoping my shop/KTM can make it right but I'm really not sure how much i want to keep the bike. You nail all the points i love about it but it's hard to trust it to get me anywhere every time. Im not afraid of maintenance to keep the bike happy but electrical issues are a different realm.

Nice honest review, thanks for sharing! I had a 990 Adventure R and 1290 Super Adventure R and now looking at picking up a 2023 890 Adventure R. Don't feel like picking up another 1290 SAR on the BDRs and gnarly trails. This bike looks like the perfect balance of on and off-road performance capabilities and makes plenty of power for just about any situation. Can't wait to rip through some BDRs on one of these, I miss owning a KTM!

Oil change 600mils and Valve every 1800 is what the manual states give all take. So my question is, if u derestricted the bike to get extra horse power and use it as a light adventure bike for road and fire trails would maintenance be still the same or more?. I’m definitely thinking of buying this bike. Thanks 😊

Waiting a longer time before starting and after turning the key make starting a little better. If the engine is warm IT Starts good. So i guess never Turn the Bike Off will BE the only way to fix it😂

I'm 53, and I road a little as a child. I caught the bug hard in 2022. I ride 4/5 times a week and have progressed pretty fast, but with that being said, I still make a lot of mistakes and have a lot of hard offs. Especially on steep terrain. I have arthritis really bad, and I have to put in a Rekluse. After watching a bunch of videos, I have a few concerns. My biggest is throttle control and getting back on the bike on steep terrain. Is this something that I should worry about, or is it pretty easy to get a custom to?
