I know this tutorial was made 7 yrs ago and i don't know if you read comments any more but there is a better way of making a complete dark background that will save you 9+ hours. The best way is to "paint" your "soon to be" dark areas with a light amount of paint thinner before you put any dark pigment on the paper then press hard with one pass of your color pencil of choice and as you are putting down pigment the solvent will melt your color pencil wax evenly so that you only have to make one pass. easy peasy

Amazing you were able to get further helpful information from Alyona Nickelsen, it is amazing how you can read some instructions for varnishing but without someone to show you such as in the video you can feel very lost, especially being new to creating artwork. I think a main reason to varnish or use a fixitive for my colored pencil work is to be able to get a good result in scanning it for stories ete and being able to keep it in good condition as more work is created.

I am deaf artist. I ask you that, Gloss medium. Water based or solvent? Example: Brustro acrylic gloss varnish. Please reply me.
@CassandraHanley3 ай бұрын
The varnish that I used was solvent based. I didn’t want to use a water based varnish as the colour pencil is oil/wax based and a water based varnish will fail over time
@mahesart3 ай бұрын
@@CassandraHanley Thank you very much. Only oil colours varnish (solvent based).
@CassandraHanley3 ай бұрын
Just make sure that first spray layer is very light and fully dry as it will break down your pencil, and there is a risk of smudging. Once you have a good layer down, you can use brush on varnishes

12 pencils wow, been buying colouring pencils for at least 30 years must have at least between 1000 to 2000 pencils.

Oh, I choose not to count how many I’ve collected by now… but I remember the first 4 polychromos I bought. i was so stoked I even took a picture!!!! I couldn’t afford to get a full set and they really felt like I was spoiling myself . If I had to start again, it’s good to know what can be done with 12

Me too with the terrible faults on the paper 😔!! Its really saddening . There are also numerous other people complaining about this regular defect in pastel mat! If its not lines - its divets , or dints , or scratches all around the edges, either way its not on for such an expensive paper , people have phoned the help line & got replacements !! Maybe ring them up !! As you sounded dissatisfied & disappointed ! As you should be ! But you’re art is amazing , beautiful plucky little bird & as you said a casual viewer may not see the defects . But deffo complain ! They need to adress the manufacturing faults that are still happening , I bought mine off amazon! It was a pad , the last 4 sheets had the damage . Anyway , i still love PM , But am wary now & dont trust it Shame

The one with the sunglasses is nice! - The background "gives it away" in a good way - saying look, this realism was done with pencils. Cool.

YAY, and as I also worked in aged care, I totally understand the issue!! Glad you are back and I will keep an eye out for new videos!!

How are you doing Cassandra? I hope you are really well enough to restart your channel soon. It would be such a shame considering all the work you've put in, to build up a channel of over 19 000 subscribers. I enjoy your tutorials very much - you were one of the first channels I discovered when my art journey started a couple of years ago.
