ChatGPT and other AI models can certainly be helpful but at the end of the day, I wouldn't bet your entire career on it. Remember models like that aren't necessarily 100% accurate nor up to date, and they certainly aren't going to save you in an interview. Use AI responsibly and don't neglect good old fashion hard work.

Rich is subjective based on your perspective of what that actually means and how much you are able to save. There is no blanket answer to that question because it depends entirely on the strategy of individual companies. That said, cloud jobs are usually tied closely to operations, which tends to be one of the last things to be outsourced.

My strategy is to renew my old certs with some higher level cert. By earning a higher level cert it sometimes automatically renews some other lower level ones. Some cert vendors allow this A caveat to this is that only certs from a given branch or technology /vendor can be renewed this way
@JonGoodCyber
@JonGoodCyber 2 күн бұрын
Most certification vendors these days who require ongoing maintenance of certifications allow you to achieve the CPE requirements by passing other related certifications. What they don't typically do, especially if the certifications are from different vendors, is allow you to do this for free. That means you'll have renewal fees to keep your certification active, which often deters people from renewing them because the fee isn't worth it. For example, if you had the Security+ and then got the CISSP, you would still have to pay the maintenance fees on the Security+. These fees can range from $50 annually to $479 (4-year cycle) for GIAC certifications.

Per the CISSP requirements: "Candidates must have a minimum of five years cumulative, full-time experience in two or more of the eight domains of the current CISSP Exam Outline. Earning a post-secondary degree (bachelors or masters) in computer science, information technology (IT) or related fields may satisfy up to one year of the required experience or an additional credential from the ISC2 approved list may satisfy up to one year of the required experience. Part-time work and internships may also count towards the experience requirement." The question is, do you have experience across two or more of the domains? @JonGoodCyber
@JonGoodCyber 6 күн бұрын
If things work when you provide static information but fail when you set the system to dynamic, you probably have one of a few issues: 1. Your system either isn't receiving information from a DHCP server, which results in an IP address starting with 169. (Use commands like ipconfig to verify the settings) 2. You are receiving DHCP information from a server that doesn't know about the resources that you are looking for. (Use commands like ipconfig to verify the settings) 3. Given what you are saying, the less likely option is happening, but your network, router/switch, network adapter, or firewall(s) aren't configured correctly. I also recommend researching how DHCP and DNS work to learn more about how they work and what is required to function correctly.

I wouldn't use the word hard or difficult to describe it because it's not that difficult if you have the right plan. From the countless people that I've helped and continue to help be successful in the career field, beginners are by far the most resistant to the idea of the things that tend to work the best because it's not always the "coolest" or "most exciting" thing at times.

This is a very common mistake that we see professionals make, especially those who are newer to the career field. It's just not the reality and thinking that will lead to disappointment because you will not be qualified and instead will have larger than normal knowledge gaps if that is all you do. @@JonGoodCyber So, I'm confused... to someone with no prior knowledge of the IT world. You would still recommend they learn N+ before A+? @JonGoodCyber
@JonGoodCyber 9 күн бұрын
There are many reasons why the A+, at least from a certification standpoint, isn't necessary in the tech world today, but the full discussion isn't best suited for the comment section. The short-ish summary is that the majority of professionals don't need the hardware information, and any of the valuable information is just reintroduced in other certifications, or it can be learned as someone grows in their career. From what I've noticed, the people who continue to push the A+ today either do it because they did it and insist on people following the same dated path (gatekeepers), or they have been potentially brainwashed by the CompTIA marketing efforts (kudos to CompTIA) that are persistent that's the only way you will "learn the fundamentals," which is certainly not correct. It's not necessarily that the information will somehow reduce your maximum career potential, but my students and the people who ask questions want to follow the most effective and efficient path. I've never had somebody ask how to go slow, but if I did, I would say get the A+. My free eBook ( jongood.com/getstarted/ ) provides the full roadmap of skills and certifications that I recommend if you are interested.

If you’re getting the course for free like myself which was through a program in my city from a college’s business development program then it’s worth taking the time to complete especially if you have no prior knowledge and want a basic understanding of cybersecurity in the role of an analyst. More than that if you have the time to commit & complete it’s good for mental morale that you set a goal and see it through. I do believe this course serves a purpose to give you exposure to discovering how much more you need to learn to pass your exam and to gain an understanding of what you need to be able to apply. I’m in course 5 with three more to go and will see it through to completion. I’m also not banking on the google course alone to aid me in passing and getting an entry level job in cybersecurity.

As described in this video, the program has a lot left to be desired, but it's a lower risk opportunity to see if people can make it through a very introductory course as things only get more difficult from here. That said, I don't remember the last time somebody contacted me to get into the career field and being ok with slowing things down.

@JonGoodCyber 13 күн бұрын
Regardless of the training option, they all have limited time, and even the quality options aren't going to be able to teach you everything you'll ever need. Cyber Security is very much a career field where you need to get good at not only learning from training programs, but also from self learning if you want to be successful. I'm not sure what you mean by a "real" school/university, but just because something isn't taught in a program, doesn't mean you can avoid learning it if it's a requirement of a job. The people that are highly successful in this career field take ownership of their journey and find a way to learn what they need. As shown in this video, there's trial versions of many common commercial products that you can experiment with as well as comparable open source options, like Wazuh in this case, that will at least teach you how the category/type of tool works.
